08-09 Section 8AA

Post by HOFam'r »

Alright-I know it's May and I understand that several things could change from now to then...However, I am interested in knowing your opinion on who you think will win this Section. Things may tighten down considerably since it looks like LEE and Landman will be in Juniors next year. Your pick and why please!!

I can't say for sure, but it may be an assumption that was based on the fact he got drafted last week by the Chicago Steel.
But it doesn't mean he's going. 8)

Sorry, Your assumption is wrong. He will be lacing them up for the Rams next year.

E70- Going with Roseau is not a surprise but why Buffalo? Moorhead is going to be tough next season aren't they? Tech will be good as well not sure about Brainerd but the Bison should be no more than 4 seed?

In the M-8?

Really though I agree, I think the spuds come on strong this year, they were pretty young last year as I recall, I'm not sure about Tech? Because it will just turn into another St.Cloud argument if you say anything :P

Everything goes in cycles I think that the Rams will be competitive, but not dominant if they lose many of these players. JMO so have at it. :D

And well BBL did beat Monty once last year or was that STMA :-k
So do they really have the bottom locked up?

Its awful early.
Just going by select kids, kids coming back, bantam teams.
Moorhead's dominance is slipping and with that goes some confidence.

Brainerd may surprise after nearly being eliminated from competition, but usually something bad happens its followed with a gerat comeback or devastation. I am leaning toward a problem year.

Roseau has some very good fill-ins.

The bottom (south not necessarily the bottom) side is difficult to predict when you don't see them much if at all.

here is what I think I know. Bison will have three very solid defensemen, all three made top 50 in 90/91/92 classes. Top three forwards should be better than last year when they tallied 85 points...look for more like 125 this season...2nd line will have some talent and grit while third line will be untested but could be effective to some degree.

In my estimation they have three or possibly four kids that are extremely talented.

Problem is that they will have a untested goalie..but the kid has played well at times so it's anyone guess how he will fair. This crew of kids were top twenty as Bantams but may lack the grit, intelligence and determination it takes to knock off top hockey powers.

That's right Bemidji and maybe TRF will be better.

Josh Solum from Faribault, unless he has taken his other offer.

well the way I see it is that Lee is gone....that is his choice. Roseau has at least two goalies that I know will step up and fill the position very well. Those two have always been the backups for Lee and really have never gotten the chance to be the "MAN". With that said Every kid that plays hockey in roseau dreams of being varsity for the RAMS and when given the chance they will step up to the plate and the RAMS will be fine. What is funny is how everybody says Roseau is going to be down this year with the loss of Lee it takes a team to win and that is what will happen this year they will play and win as a team. GO RAMS!!!!!! See all you doubters in the cities come March!!!!!

Roseau
Buffalo
Moorhead
Brainerd
Tech
River Lake
Northern Lakes
MAML
BBL

My rationale is that until someone beats Roseau, they are the team to beat. Buffalo has the core to rise to the top of the second-tier, with Moorhead, Brainerd, and maybe Tech in contention. River Lake and Northern Lakes should be ahead of MAML as they retool their program (that will take a few years to get back on track).

BBL is another discussion all together - they lost a member of the co-op and really need to focus on developing a youth program before anyone worries about competing in 8AA. They would be a good case for a third tier in High School classifications - those just trying to get off the ground. No history, tradition, arena, etc. It is a massive undertaking, and I hope they succeed, but it takes time.

Bemidji good

Bemidji could handle the AA game and from what I hear they didn't handle the A game either.

Ah, another ignorant soul, to make my day more delightful.

'could handle...didn't handle....'

...and FYI, we are speaking in the future tense. Meaning what is to come.

Must be unaware of how time works... Classes graduate, coaches move on, etc... The new junior, sophomore and freshmen classes were very successful in peewee/bantam districts and regions and have all been to state tournaments. Will be competitive for the next few years (next head coach will be factor as well). edinalover1
