Slapshotdude,

Not sure what anyone has to be careful for. I'm a metro (city dude) and I think having the one site tournament sucks, and I know alot of metro people feel the same way.

Slapshotdude, if you think the outstate youth hockey associations make lots of money off of you metro teams coming to visit...then you need to come see how the budgets really work for the tournaments. They love to have you come visit, but you don't make them rich.

Is there any reason why the ticket price for this great new adventure hasn't been advertised yet? I know my hotdog aint gonna cost $2.50 bucks anymore either.

Outstate

Post by Slapshotdude »

All 3 of my kids played from age 5 until they graduated. That’s 39 regular season teams. We traveled up to Cloquet some times twice a year and never played a Cloquet team because there was never one in the tournament. This story was repeated several times over in other northern towns and I have every tournament program saved in a box down stairs to prove it. They did not have the tournament so their kids could play. It was a fundraiser. The association made some bucks and so did the hotels and restaurants that fed us and put us up. My guess is many of them are sponsors of the local hockey association and were more then happy to see the money come through in the dead of winter, their slow season. Hockey is a huge money sport, Not complaining because it also a blast, my favorite and worth every penny. Can't wait for the grand kids to start playing. Maybe I'll get to go to the X and watch them. My family has 6 state tournament appearances and 2 Championships. Gota love it.

Your tournament programs still don't add up to great subsidy for the associations that put these on. I have helped too many of these "big fundraiser" tournaments that make a few hundred bucks. Sorry, if you thought you were on a charity run up north, you were mistaken.

Hard to believe in 39 regular seasons which covers about 13 years that Cloquet didn't field a team at whichever level. They've had A Bantams, A Pee Wees and A Squirts for quite some time. They've also supported B teams at these levels for many years. Don't act like you did the northland a favor by gracing us with your presence. It's generally people like you that give the metro folk a bad name. Your holier than thou attitude towards the outstate is all that is wrong with youth sports. The metro doesn't deserve a one site spot any more than moving it to one spot in the north.

And at last check, the metro teams always used to appreciate coming up here because they received great competition and fair ice time. Not running time periods and shortened game times due to cost. To reverse your statement, the metro needs the outstate just as much.

We from the metro apologize for Slapshotdude and his ridiculous comments.

I think we all can relax it appears MN Hockey will not have one site state tourney after all; I believe Elliott knows this but doesn't trust the guys at MNH until it is done.

We will be back to the outstate tourneys by the end of the weekend.

By the way having youth state championship games at the X is even worse than the girls playing there for their state tourney.

Wow. Amazing how some of you can take everything out of context. Sure glad you have no say the greater good of hockey. For those of you that do not agree, I could give a rat’s bottom. FYI, Elliott and I agree to disagree. He is a very respectful and respected man that is a rare commodity now a days. Also, if you have not noticed, "Stirring the Pot" is the way I get your real feelings to come out. It is so easy on this forum. Don't take it so personal Fire and Ice. Maybe some day your kid will get to play in the big show. I know you’re jealous.

I am not jealous if you are referring the state appearances and titles...

I am thrilled for your kids.

what do you know that we don't?

Why is the one-site tournament going to be overturned? Minnesota Hockey has been spinning this thing so much that it is starting to look like a top. I'd be interested to see how they get a reversal on this thing.

No one from the MN Hockey board has said anything about rescinding the onesite state.

The rumor is that the X is not available and they well not run one site this year or at least not run it in he manner that was proposed.

Slapaeriadude is correct when he says I do not trust certain people.

We will know by Sunday noon.

I'm still trying to figure out why Cloquet got singled out for having a fundraiser as part of the state tournament. I have been to four state tournament banquets (3 metro, 1 outstate), and there is no difference. You pay for over priced banquet tickets, eat some average food, and listen to a guest speaker talk about his road to success. Just because Cloquet is not in the state tournament they shouldn't be able to hold a fundraiser as the metro teams do?

I have to add that the banquet meal this year (Edina), was better than most years, and guest speaker was actually interesting.

Xcel Energy center not available?????

Post by council member retired »

So MN Hockey powers that be, decided to make a motion for a single site state trny, and did not check too see if the venue was available ???????

Wholly cow... some of these people need a knock on the head. I cancelled my season tickets to the Wild because of this....( Not that I am sore about that w/out Rolston, DeMitra, and soon Bouchard )

I would imagine that Interlachen's availability was checked before winning the US Women's Open. Go Elliot70 and all others that are there for ALL of MN Hockey's players.
