Don't forget...

The 2007-2008 Ms MN Hockey will be within walking distance during this school year, and not a 133 mile drive to Bemidji...

From all accounts Mr. Ness played well for the US. He will most likely be paired w/ a veteran Dman that will allow him to do his thing offensively when the opportunity arises, and I believe he will complement and help his forward linemates, much more than what we saw at the high school level.
I would expect him to have a good year w/ the Gophers, not a great year, but a solid freshman year. I would expect us to see more of the team player he can be (International play), than the individual we saw at times in high school.

I fully expect Ness to be an excellent college player. Mike Crowley type instincts. Remains to be seen if he will grow enough physically to become a good NHL player.

He may be a bit overhyped -- depending what circles you're getting your hype from. But he is an excellent hockey player, regardless.

Ness is a very good player and he was absolutely over-hyped.

Do not underestimate the power of the internet cafe at the Roseau Legion!

No, he did not unless I missed it. I counted 7 or 8 Minnesota kids. The 1990's seems like a pretty deep group.

Islanders draft Ness at #40...

Interesting, no Forum congrats to Mr. Ness for being drafted at #40... :?:
40th best in the world at his age, Humm, not too bad...

As a big Gopher Hockey fan and season ticket holder, it is not good to see the Islanders take Ness... Garth Snow has made it clear last year w/ Okoposo, that he is not a big fan of College hockey, and not a fan of how Mr. Lucia develops his kids...

Selfishly, I would like to see Aaron in Maroon & Gold for three years...

Any word if the big guy who left Hibbing for Canada went in the draft or maybe it was'nt his year to get drafted?

Ness deserves to be congratulated. That's a tremendous honor.

Stompahar, and I don't think it was his year. Next year.

No..not a chance. You have to be able to skate in the new NHL.

I don't really agree with that. I think the okoposo deal was something a lot of GM's might do and something I would have probably done. It seems like he was unhappy with one persons development at one program.
Look at at Garth Snows drafting the last two years not to mention taking Okoposo out of the USHL a few years ago.
This year:
36th overall Trevino. Tier II canadian going to BU next yr followed four picks later by ness (a small american headed to college). How many 6-3 guys from the O and the WHL did he pass up?
66th pick. Toews headed to North Dakota...I think?
96th overall. Matt Donovan from the USHL. Headed to Denver Univ.
4 picks in the top 100 Headed to NCAA programs...He seems like he is ok with college guys.
The year before the isles traded away their first and second round picks but used one of their 3rd round picks on on gregoire from Lincoln who is also headed to North dakota. Also taken last yr with one of their few picks was blake kessel who i believe is going to UNH.
Looks to me like he has invested a lot of the islanders future in college hockey as well as his job. The okoposo deal to me seems more isolated than the press blows it up as.
A few other things i noticed looking at last years roster.
Their captain Bill Guerin was a Boston college guy. Hilbert and comrie were michigan wolverines. Bates was at BU. Sutton at Mich Tech.
Meyer was at BU and NTDP as was dipietro who was the starting goalie in the allstar game. His backup was dubielwicz from Denver. Snow, was a goalie at maine before playing in the nhl.

I also see the Isles signed MN native Jack Hillen out of Colorado College this spring.
Okoposo at even strength last year. 18 games. team leading -10. 3 goals and 1 assist and 3 penalties for 6 minutes. Can anyone really blame the islanders for wanting something to change for a guy they took with 7th overall pick? some other top 10's from that draft year. Erik johnson, toews, mueller, james shepard from the wild, backstrom from the caps (i think he was up for a calder trophy already), jordan staal, and a guy named phil kessel.
