I really like this team right now. :D

Twins are +9 with a chance to move it to double digits on our Nations Birthday versus the Tribe.

No C.C. Sabathia, no Cliff Lee in that series.

Cy Byrd opens it up though. Here's hoping the last beating he took against the hometown club was the beginning of a new rule, and not an exception.

I agree with him but I dont think its a negative.

The football thing is a perfect example. The Packer fans stayed loyal for 25 years while one ex player turned coach produced one losing season after another.

They went from bad to average and back to bad for a quarter century and the dumb boofin fans showed up and got drunk every Subnday anyways. Now, there is something to be proud of , eh?

If ownership knows they need to win to succeed financially, its a better situation. See for example the Chicago Cubs.

Fans dont need to be loyal regardless of the teams success to be good fans. We have to gut it out for the down /rebuilding years but not for 25 years of ineptness like in Green Bay.That's not loyal , that's just plain stupid.

It's the ballpark. The proof is in the fact that when they play in Milwaukee or KC, half of those parks are filled with Twins fans, and you'll usually hear a few thousand in Chicago too.

Come on back in April 2010 and sit in the sleet in a packed Govs93 Ballpark, and then find out who's fair weathered.

I don't know if the Twins are overachieving or are a better team than I thought.
I guess it doesn't really matter.
Go Twins. :)
As far as the Green Bay reporter- He had to rip the Twins fans.
He sure couldn't say much bad about the Twins players after they manhandled his precious brew crew.
That's nothing compared to the agony those Wisconsin faithful are going through as they consider the possibility of Favre trotting out on Lambeau opening day in a purple jersey. :D

Good news... here's one less headache in the division.

Hopefully the Twins can put a foot up the Tigers' rear end next weekend so they consider folding up shop and making this a two horse race.

The 2 teams that have been the most consistent in the division over the last few years are going to battle it out again form here on in.

The Whiteys and the Twinkies.

How many wins will it take and which team will get that number?

I like the Twins chances now and here is why:

1. They have, once again, realized that the young guys they have are better than the el cheapo free agents they sign.

2. Speed. As you know, there is no substitute for it.

3. Solid starting staff

4. The bullpen is looking good. Rincon is gone. Talk about addition by subtraction.

5. Most of all, because they HIT THE BOOFIN BALL

Add more reasons and discuss.

Is it just me, or is the 9-1-2 lineup with Span-Gomez-Casilla the greatest thing EVER?! Defenses just have no idea what to do with those 3 in a row like that... Cliff Lee throwing a tantrum over Gomez' bunt yesterday is evidence of the frustration they can cause. Back them up with an All-Star starter who's 2nd in the league in hitting to knock them around, and it's working just as it should.

6. Sox are too one-dimensional

Sox can only win consistently if they hit the ball over the fense. I like HR's as much as anyone but the key to winning over the long haul is offensive balance. If speed is the key the Sox have none. Crede, Konerko, Thome, AJ, and Quentin are far far below average runners.

7. Twins are done traveling to Chicago

Comiskey is a launching pad and I don't like the Twins head to head matchups with the Sox here. Good news is they have no more until the post season.

When Gomez is up the 3rd basemen plays halfway to home.

It makes it real easy to drive the ball passed him.

No substitute for it.

Delmon Young is just starting to hit. A main cog in the offense couldn't hit anywhere near what he has done early in the year and is starting to turn it around. The Twins did just fine when he wasn't hitting well, just think about when he does. I love speed and those guys are fun as hell to watch, but I think Delmon will make a huge difference when his bat gets going.

Also the possibility of Liriano in the 2nd half. I'd personally not rush him at all and if that means nothing this season, fine by me. But if he is ready and can be a #3 type starter, that would really up our staff.

You bring this guy in THAT game???

Crain, Reyes, or Guerrier for the eighth. Not Brian boofin Bass.

Baker was at 94 pitches... he couldn't go another inning?! The whole 100 pitch count crap really gets on my nerves in cases like last night where a pitcher is throwing a shutout, and the opposing team clearly doesn't have him figured out. Maybe he goes through the 8th, ends up at 115 pitches, gets yanked in the 9th and Bass still gives up the winning run, who knows. At least you're giving yourself a chance to stay in it, you're showing a lot of confidence in your starter, and giving him an opportunity that he earned with his performance up to that point..

Cheese and rice... What are you trying to to accomplish when you manage the game that way?! Did Gardy forget what they're playing for?!YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!

Well boys, you can go on and on about the pitch count and Brian Boofin Bass all you want but why didnt they win the game?

Huh? Whats the reason? I think you know.

Yup thats right. They did not

HIT THE BOOFIN BALL

Excellent point on Delmon, ER. I went to a couple of games during the Tigers serieschere and he was right on the ball. Everything was hit hard. He hit it hard last night but right at a guy. If he breaks out, it would be huge.

Oh boy, here we go again.

I just read the Red Star column on the game.

Its all Delmon Young's fault because he swung at the first pitch.

Remember, 2 years ago it was all Justin Morneaus fault because he swung at the first pitch. Well, that approach won him the MVP.

Hopefully , Young will have similar success and these morons who must have never had a bat in their hands will shut up.

Get a good pitch to hit and drive it. Doesnt matter when it comes.

The "geniuses" didn't mention that Delmon is hitting .304 on the first pitch, and .179 on 0-2 counts did they.

Hey kids this team has got to win some more games on the road. Right now they are -3 living out of duffle bags and have dropped the first of seven straight thanks to the goose egg in Boston last night.

Between Aug 21 and Sept 21 the Twins will play 24 of 30 on the road, YES, 24 of 30 away from the Dome. 2-5 or 1-6 on this road swing will not necessarily dash our second half hopes but it is a real indication of what could lie ahead.

The road to the post season will need to go through LA, SEA, OAK, TOR, BAL, CLE, and TB about the time the boys in purple start crunching the pads.

It's a good point Shanty, but...
Sea=hasn't lived up to expectations and will be so far down by then they will be shedding players and looking to next year.
Oak=already is shedding off players (Harden to the Cubs)
Tor & Bal=so far back in the AL East they will also be playing AAA players on a regular basis
That leaves LA and TB tough tests to see where they really stand, but this was suppose to a rebuilding year, anything above .500 is about what most of us expected (or hoped for) so lets enjoy the ride and see where it goes. I do hope they add an arm and maybe a bat though if they have a shot.
If nothing else the purple will be popping pads and I do expect a good year from them.
