The league captures 80% of the right players based on the criteria it claims on the website. The other 20% are political (i.e. does Russo like you). The previous years performance clearly has nothing to do with the selection process as I can see 10 or more kids that did NOTHING last year. There are 6-7 forwards that scored less than 5 points last year on those rosters. Its too bad for those that really deserve it. The league will lose some of its luster if they keep this up.

The teams are designed to be set-up from players who live in the geographical area of the team they represent. In the case where an area has more players than the team is able to field, then these players are placed on other teams. In the case of Southwest, Nagel's placement is odd, but Fons and Meyer are correct in where they live. Larson has nothing to do with certain players being placed on his team. As with anything hockey related to a selection process, issues over those selected or not will always be a hot topic and of course kids will missed.

On the flip side, I am thankful we are living in MN with our options such as elite league and the quality of play available for High School kids. Playing AAA with its travel, costs and schedule is not a preferable alternative for most......Overall, I think we have it pretty good.

Hendrickson is actually a great player. I don't see a problem with any of the sophmores that were invited, they all should do just fine.

Some of the kids with these low point totals got a free ride with no tryout into the league. Their HS coach gets them in. Only certain coaches can do this. I see players on the tryout rosters that have 30-50 points last season and they don't make it? And as stated above, 6-7 that have 5 points or less. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! I will agree, 80% deserve it. The rest as usual, politics. Yes it is great Minnesota can offer such opportunities, but lets get it right. Or at least a little closer. Anyone can look at the rosters and see by knowing the players or looking at the point totals to see who really deserves it. I agree it will start losing its luster. Was the same way last year.

What about the alternates? Do they distribute them to teams in need, or are they placed as alternates on certain teams? Do they play much? At all? Pay the same costs? Or is it a thanks for coming, here's your door prize?

Here's your door prize.

The other big issue with this league, and I would love to hear other peoples opinions on this, is that it was created to keep kids from leaving Minnesota High School hockey for Juniors. In my opinion, it has fallen short of that goal. It had a temporary effect on that but is now looking like a springboard to Juniors for alot of kids. The pressure on the coaches to win vs develop is such that the coaches re-load with Juniors in high school so they can have them two years. Just look at how few first year players are seniors vs juniors this year.

I know that last year due to injury, Jordan Johnson played quite a bit.

So Patrick Regan-Edina, Charlie Taft-Edina, Bratt Patterson-bsm(Eden Prairie),Steven Lloyd-Eden Prairie & Jim Krueger-Mtka any of these guys closer than a kid name Nagel or the kid from Mound (Horn). Personally, I think when you find this connection you will find out why this league is nothing more than a bunch good ol boys promoting their own kids. Secondly, was I right about the coach? Interesting how they fill up the teams first with the top line in high school hockey (Budish,Lee & Everson-Gaarder) Best Goalies etc, etc...... :^o :^o :^o :^o :^o I know..... Skrbec not making the team is pure bull. That kid can play and he is a proven Varsity player. Pretty glaring oversight for the northern team.

If a kid played last year in Elite, he gets a free ride this year? Looking at the NW roster, not bad, but how does the Buffalo player that was 4th on his team in points (19) last year get on a team over the player that had to try out that lead his team in points (36) last year? And How does a player that had 2 points last year make it? Being from the South Metro, I'm not familiar with these players, I was just looking at TO rosters vs the players that made it.

Congrats to the 5 east kids, all good players. I agree with the skrbec kid, very nice player. Also heard hendrickson, weston, ohrn, baldwin were automatically on, same reason as selects? then if true, this league won't last. good players, but not automatics!! I would guess there was only a couple openings not already pre- filled. some surprising names missing that were not even on the lists or alternates list unless i missed them. lutzka east, youso & lenium falls, skrbec & kleinendort & underwood G.R., hanegmon Hibbing, krause & bannor h-town, mahoney & messina marshall. also did'nt see shaugabee & larson warroad, weston roseau, moberg f-lake, maybe they just did'nt have a good tryout, but i heard it was packed on the ice. good luck to all that deservingly made it.

many PROVEN VARSITY PLAYERS have been seriously overlooked this year. it's a shame that they allow this to happen as the league would only gain if the deserving kids actually built up the teams. i see kids on this list that played some jv last season and VERY little varsity time. like someone else stated, some of the kids on these rosters had as little as 2 pts. last yr. unbelievable...

packed on the ice is a major understatement. at the tryout they played 25 min. running time games with 4 lines. the kids got a total of about 9-12 shifts throughout the entire day of tryouts. again -- unbelievable...

looking at the schedule for this im wondering how these kids/parents can afford to travel 9 weekends in a row????? if i had to take my kid to all nine weekends without car pool it would be cheaper for him to play midget AAA. As for the picks ALL SPORTS are the same. you can always scratch your head this way or that. sometimes its just the type of player a coach likes. its not always obvious on why each person is selected. money and politics will always play a roll in the bottom end of the bench or who gets to play with who on the top end it will never change.

I agree, who is the coach of the Northeast? WBL has two returning All Conference players (Swanson and Wolter) and three returning Honorable Mentions (Collette, Hoffman, and Lowell) and not one of them is on the roster. As a matter of fact, I don't know if any of them even received invites to play even though they played Elite II last year!

Well like others on here have stated, there are many great hockey players on these final rosters. On the other hand, there are many unproven (The word I would use) players that many people can agree on shouldn't be playing in the elite league (Yet anyways). With that being, I have taken a few minutes to think of a fairly large list of proven varsity hockey players that would build a great "Extra Team" in the league (These are just some of the players that came to my mind and I am sure there are many more so feel free to add your opinion).

D Derek Stauber - Duluth Marshal

F Ryan Weston - Roseau
F Julius Tamasy - Brainerd
