Showcase Summer Women's Hockey League

The league's just finishing up this week with playoff games. The link to the final games is here. I know this is the high school forum but there's A LOT of newly graduated seniors playing in this league along with some younger AAA teams. I've been really impressed with the MN Extreme team which is mostly underclassmen I believe--they're really quick and move the puck well! Steven's Point and Gustavus have been impressive as well. Another thing I've noticed is that on average the NCHA teams seem to be quicker and more physical than the MIAC teams. Has anyone else seen any games??

Fantastic league, professionally run, great people and they actually let the girls play the more aggresive college game, I have a daughter playing in it and it's been awesome for her...does any one have any scores from the games last night?

she was at the gophers camp last night and couldn't make the playoff game and I'm curious to hear how a couple of the teams did

Stevens Point was beaten by the East Side Eagles 6-3 with the last goal being an open netter. Good game - pretty even on the shots. Point was missing a few players.

I don't remember all the scores but i do know:

Wild AAA beat St. Mary's 3 or 4 to 0
Bethel came back to tie Eau Claire 3-3 and then won it in a shootout
East Side Eagles beat Steven's Point 6-3 i think?
and Walser beat River Falls by 5 or 6 goals

Camp or playoff game? Hmmmmmmmm how did her team like that? You can go to camps any time but not the playoffs.

On the other hand, you could see where good training and coaching could be better in terms of development.

she can also play for someones dad any time but how often does she get to work with Brad Frost? she's playing summer hockey to get better. We talked and she decided that part of being the best is to learn from the best.

Nothing against Dad Coaches, most of them are pretty good, But if my daughter has a choice (which she did) she would rather go with the college coach because she hopes to play in college and wants to see what it's all about.

It might not answer all her questions, but spending the week hanging around college players, going to the meetings with the coaches, HAVING FUN and learning. she had a choice and she made it, I respect her for it and I'm happy with her choice.

We didn't even know there were playoffs when we commited to the league let alone the dates of them. We thought the camp was a nice way to end the summer and it happened to overlap. Our daughter has played 73 games since the season ended everywhere from Canada to the east coast. She wanted to play alot of games and has said this was the funnest summer she has ever had. Do I regret her missing a playoff game? Not at all because it was HER CHOICE and I don't think it affected her or her team in any way.

I think your daughter made an excellent choice to attend the camp. In my opinion these kids play way to many games in the summer and not enough time working on skills. Just my opinion.

And...it's showcase for gosh sakes!

Who cares. Playoffs are just a way to extend it two games and if you're luck you'll play teams that you didn't during the regular season.

I think she made an excellent choice as well and I agree - they could have at least eveyone know through the online schedule what days the games were going to be.

I know a lot of girls that couldn't make games because they had to work or go to college orientation or one even a summer church camp.

Maybe....but....based on the camp schedule....over half of the ice time is games....looks to me to be alittle weak on the development side and heavy on games.

Amen! Leave the girl's choice alone--there are lots of opportunities and you have to chose what is right for you. To Puck Bag's point, showcase hockey is not great hockey--many teams have no systems and it is a lot of individual as opposed to team effort. Someone previously mentioned "more aggressive, college-style hockey" and I would have to disagree. While college-style hockey is can be physical, I have never seen more fist fights and cheap play then I have seen in this league this year. Interestingly enough, it was typically the teams with no adult on the bench that were the cheapest.

I was watching the Extreme play the East Side Eagles. They have a player (#14 I think) who plays defense who is quite a player. Anyone know who she is?

Could be Ali Nelson she wore 14 in the Two Nations Female Hockey League in the spring.
