If that can be avoided, the AL Central looks very different on Friday, assuming Detroit will have their way with Cleveland this week.Irishmans Shanty wrote:2. Hawk Harelson announcing "this game is o-va" more than once.
Meet your 2008 Twins!

Now, more than ever before this season, is the time to make hay.
If they can find a way to take 3 of the next 4, they'd take the division lead heading into a stretch of cupcake series against Cleveland, Seattle, and KC. The next 2 weeks could truly make or break this season... and they better get it done now since PB and his cronies are sending the team packing for 2 weeks following that.

Twins / Chisox Preview Game 1
Ruh-Roh...Slowey has been hit hard in two losses to the White Sox this season - both in Chicago - giving up 11 runs and 14 hits over eight total innings.
Chicago's Jermaine Dye is 3-for-8 (.375) with a homer and two RBIs in his career versus Slowey. The right fielder, who homered for the third straight game Sunday, is batting .487 (19-for-39) with four homers and 12 RBIs over his last 10 contests.
Allright here is what I have so far:
ER 94
Govs 93
PB 92
sinbin 91
tomASS 90
UNS 88
Anybody else? If so, let us know.
Big series coming up. Probably cant win the division in the next 4 games but could lose it if swept.
What an honor to go on the road so the Republicans can have their convention in our town.

I wanted to say 92 but I am taking 89.
That means the Twins are right on pace.

That's not true, 3 of 4 would put them .5 game back. They're currently 2.5 out right? I was using Bert's California math though...Govs93 wrote:Now, more than ever before this season, is the time to make hay.

87 and 96 wins are still available. Let's see, 87 is a +12, 96 is a +30. Can the Twins go 20 over from here on out with that wretched road swing from mid Aug to mid Sept lying ahead. I don't know, but they'll have to because 87 wins isn't going to do it.
Gimmee 96 wins and I will trump Neutron when they hang it on Sept 27, 2008 versus the Royals. The Twins will lose the season finale the next day with the division already clinched. The Vikings will lose that day as well.
96 wins: Making hay to play 20 over from Today.

The Sox announcers really didn't like Dye's HR coming off the board. Despite the images being broadcasted by their own cameras, they just didn't like the ump who was closest to the play being overruled. The Ball was foul, TV showed it and the guy with the largest vested interest and the best view of the play didn't even bother to circle the bases as the ball landed in the seats.
I hope Harrelson falls over one of these days. He's hands down the absolute worst broadcaster of any kind - EVER. Idiot.Irishmans Shanty wrote:The Sox announcers really didn't like Dye's HR coming off the board. Another injury from sliding to the bag hands first instead of feet first.
Gardy should outlaw it for the rest of the season.
Anyways, the Twins got hot for 20 games and that shot them into contention.
They played .500 ball after that for awhile which kept them there.
Now, they look like they are gettting hot again.
Sweeping the Sox would be huge.
Whe the chips are down and the team is going good , its the guys they developed who make it happen.
They need a little help tonight from a free agent pickup. Dan Gladden is the last guy I can think of who had a big impact on a Twins winner who was from outside the organization.
Let it be Livan tonight.
Maybe mixed in with a little Brendon Harris.

The Twins can catch the Sox but they are a player away from holding that lead and/or winning a playoff series.
TB will fade so that means the Twins will need to take down BOS, NYY, or LAA in the playoff's first round. As currently constructed they can not do this. I don't know who the player is that they can land or who they can live with losing to get him but it isn't my job to. Morneau needs protection, without it, he'll never see anything over the plate. If the Sox completely took the bat out of his hands the last two nights, they've got one win. The bullpen needs an additional option, Crain-Reyes-Guerrier-Nathan worked last night but this four can not go everynight until late Sept. Can a rotation of Baker, Blackburn, and Slowey beat the best in the AL in a five or seven game series? Scary thought isn't it.
Go Twins, go Livantana, strike a lead tonight let the guys upstairs do their job.

Agreed but I pose this question: Isn't eveybody else in the same boat?Irishmans Shanty wrote:The Twins can catch the Sox but they are a player away from holding that lead and/or winning a playoff series.

I dont like the bullpen without Neshek but everybody has issues in the pen. They may have better set up guys but maybe they dont have a Nathan.
Think about how many times the Twins have won games vs other teams bullpens. Juan Rincon is still pitching in the majors.
The rotation is untesed over the long haul but who's do you like better? The Yankees? They have Sidney Ponson. Maybe The Angels and Red Sox but not that big of a difference.
They need a right handed bat to hit behind our HR Derby hero, Jason.
Gov's big hero Kubel is worthless vs lefties. He is so worthless that Mike Redmond has DHed vs the Sox lefties.
But as Govs argued:who needs Frank Thomas.
But even at that, they are in the top 5 in Runs.
Nobody else has a Mauer behind the plate from CDH, a Catholic High School. There are forces at work here as pointed out during The Crusades and other such lengthy trips.
The Twins seem to have regained their sense of timing which in baseball trumps all stats and power ratings.
If this timing is delivered from on high..............well, we've all seen the results of that.
