That's a bizzarre statement. What over the top behavior have you witnessed at a summer training session?
I saw a parent drink milk past its expiration date. Thats about as over the top as I have ever witnessed. NotfromMN you are sadly misinformed. That is an " over the Top " statement.

Seems like a perfect fit, a coach who hasn't spent more than 1 year in the same program, and a school that doesn't keep a coach for more than two years.

Past coaching experience as identified on the Gopher website:

Laura Slominski returned to her alma mater in 2006. Prior to the hire with her former college team, Slominski was an assistant coach at St. Cloud State University in the 2005-06 season. Before coaching at the Division I level, Slominski served as the head coach of Kennedy High School girls’ team in the 2004-05 season. Slominski started her coaching career as an assistant coach with St. Olaf College, where she held the position from 2002-2004. Along with her collegiate coaching experience, Slominski also coached at the 2005 USA Hockey Girls’ Select 15/16 Camp in Rochester, N.Y., and at the 2006 USA Hockey Girls’ Select 17/18 Camp, in Lake Placid. N.Y.

For one, the last coach was at Edina for a long time. He coached at the youth level for many years and at the high school level for 3 years. Many parents supported him over the years and are sad to see him go. He put a lot of time and effort into girls hockey in Edina.

Furthermore, Laura Slominski is an excellent choice, she's an outstanding person and coach and the hope is that she will be with Edina for a long time. I'm confident that the parents will support her. Every program has a few crazy parents (the word fan is a derivative of the word fanatic) but in Edina the overall parent group is very supportive.

Additionally, there is always a lot of movement of coaches in girls hockey overall. There aren't many coaches who stay at a school long term. The committment of time and the pay are not motivating coaches to stay long term and there are many other reasons coaches choose to move on (or are asked to move on). Laura is going to teach in Edina so there is hope that she will make teaching and coaching in the community a long term career. If not, the hockey program (youth and high school) will only be better for the time she spends in the hockey program. She's coached and played at a very high level and her experience will only help the girls.

Slomo is an outstanding choice. She's coached and played at the highest levels. Having a teacher-coach of her caliber is a no-brainer as far as the selection is concerned. I doubt that any other candidate could bring her qualifications to this position. There will be a period of acclimation for the team to coach no matter how good either are. People shouldn't be too quick to judge based on early results. I'm sure the program and players will be much better due to her involvement long term as she will continue to build on what the prior successful coach put in place. With 20+ youth girls teams in Edina alone, the success of the HS program to date, and the support of a hockey rich community, you couldn't ask for more. Congrats to Slomo & Edina as this is awesome for all involved!

Congrats to Edina and to their new coach!

The Gopher Women's hockey website has made a statement.
http://www.gophersports.com/ViewArticle ... ID=1511601

"University of Minnesota women's hockey assistant coach Laura Slominski has taken the head coaching position at Edina High School and will leave the university after a two-year stint. Slominski, a former Golden Gopher athlete from 1998-2002, will become the head coach of the Hornets and will also teach math for Valley View Middle School in Edina."

Just a brief FYI...taking the place of Slomo behind the GWH bench will be none other than Natalie Darwitz...news released at Gophersports website a short time ago. About the best hire they could make IMO. :)
