alternatives to u12 hockey
I am wondering - are there alternatives for u12 girls who currently play for their local association. I believe the boys have other options.

Regular season? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe there are other options for boys at that age; you'd have to play club hockey in another state.buzz55116 wrote:I am wondering - are there alternatives for u12 girls who currently play for their local association. U12 girls have the option of playing peewee hockey.
I am not aware of other in season options within Minnesota.
Some kids have played on U12AAA teams out of state or rostered Before & After (WI) lots of cost and expense (to play the 10 game B&A to qualify for National Play $600 plus your travel a full season maybe $2500)....when you consider cost and competition - either play U12A or play PeeWee's (though you socially give up a ton) and supplement with other top training like Total Hockey, Karns Skating, Herb Brooks Training Center, FHIT or something similar.
If becoming a top player is the goal there are many great options run outside the season on summer teams or leagues.
Looking back (I know that isn't your question) my daughter loved
- playing girls hockey and doing stuff in season like Total Hockey,
- didn't love B&A A in Wisconsin (good U12 A hockey here in MN was much better - if you are in the metro you are not going to find better concentration of skills around the country)
- loved getting involved in CODP and OS at about U12
- and playing on summer AAA teams
She would have started shooting pucks and stickhandling stuff around the house earlier. What we have learned is games allow you to show your skills but is does not develop your skills - girls have a lot of fun in development programs with the puck on their stick most of 60 min. much more than the average of 12-15 sticks and 45 seconds of puck time in a game.....AAA or any game.

Re: alternatives to u12 hockey
There are a number of Boys AAA clubs operating out of the Twin Cities - I believe they register as a Wisconsin team and carry 5 Wisconsin kids on the roster. There are far more developed AAA boys clubs than girls and many more tournaments. Still very expensive and if you took time and money to do other training in season or out you would develop a superior skilled player. You can gain the tactical game skills by being with a good youth coach and a good AAA summer coach. Minnesota Made is starting a whole in Season League for younger Mite and Squirt kids. Focus on development and well coached competition stressing puck movement/team play.keepitreal wrote:Regular season? Not sure why you want to leave, but if your association does not offer
A level hockey, and you don't want to her to play peewees, you can try to get a waiver to play for a nearby association. You can also ask your board for permission to play up to U14's if that is an option that helps. Whatever you choose, start working on it early now.
