Thanks Hux for edits......you know we hear things in Minnesota but don't get out much....it will be fun to see some of these teams and get a feel for top U19 AAA teams from the East and Canada against the 4 MN teams.

MN Jr. Whitecaps 2 Washington Pride 1. I heard they had 35 scouts at this game alone. Sounds like a great tourney!

For a first timer to this Tournament we have a lot of work to do in Minnesota......talent and teams are very good - we do not currently have a comparable tournament in MN either from a field of competition or from draw to college scouts - seems like every D1 & D3 team is here scouting.

Jr. WhiteCaps won 2-1 over Washington Pride (very good goalie) and then 4-3 over tougher CDN Rocky Mountain Storm (Alberta area).

Walser lost first game 3-2 though largely outplayed their opponent.

IceCats one first game 5-3 (late open net goal).

Crunch really outplayed by CDN Dawson College 6-0 and then lost again to Team Alaska 4-2 on two late goals. #16 Ali Parizek and #11 Casey McMullin really stood out - the rest of the team seemed a step slow versus the competition...could just be bus legs?

From the College Board.....

Full results now posted on site for day 1.

Here are the 10 top seeded teams after day one. Not a lot of surprises.
Teams in Bold are leading their groups.

Team......Pts.....+/-
Senators 6 13
Dawson 4 14
NAHA White JWHL 4 13
Durham 4 12
Assabet 4 10
Polar Bear 4 8
Colorado Selects MWJEHL 4 5
Little Caesars MWJEHL 4 5
Jr. Whitecaps 4 3
Madison MWJEHL 4 -7

Data a bit skewed as 4 teams in this group have already played 3 games.

Assabet and Durham meet head to Head tommorow.

The top 8 seeds are most likely out of this group of teams. LA Selects could join the Fray as they were playing a late game today.

...........
Friday Scores for 4 MN Teams:
MN Crunch 0 CDN Dawson 12
MN Crunch 2 Team Alaska 4
MN Crunch 0 Assabet 9
MN Jr. WhiteCaps 2 JWHL Washington Pride 1
MN Jr. WhiteCaps 4 CDN Rocky Mountain Storm 3
MN Walser 2 Draft Choice 3
MN Walser 2 MWEL Madison Capitals 3
MN Walser 2 Draft Choice 3
MN Walser-LA Select - LATE No Score
MN Ice Cats 5 CDN S. Alberta 3
MN Ice Cats 5 CDN S. Alberta 3

None of the MN teams made the champioship pool of 8....

Jr. WhiteCaps just missed, they lost to the undefeated Colorado Selectso 2-0, and with a 3-1 record and maybe finished 9th. Ice Cats lost 2-1 today to the Conn Polar Bears 2-1 and then beat the Fury 2-0 to finish 2-2. Walser and Crunch finished 0-4.

Not sure of all the consolation games but Little Ceasers will play Jr. WhiteCaps tonight at 9:45 pm - which will be the 3rd game of the day for each team (both started at 7 AM this morning). Little Ceasers finished 2-1-1 only losing 1-0 to CT Polar Bears - should be a good game if either team has any gas in the tank.

Would have been a better if Minnesota had a playoff representive...looks like the Jr. Whitecaps were very close.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Jr. Whitecaps are pretty much a "tournament team"? I would bet that if they played together as a unit for an extended period, with good coaching, they would have better and quicker puck control.

Not to make any excuses for the MN teams, but it seems to me they are at a disadvantage in tournaments like this, because the teams are typically a collection of individuals without the benefit of practicing as a cohesive team over the course of an entire season. To be successful you need to have great individual talent, but high-level hockey is very much a team sport, and to have success you need to jell as a unit. The higher the level of play, as the weaker players are weeded out, teamwork becomes more and more critical.

Also, maybe overlooked in the "all star" teams we send, are the defensive schemes that need to be employed at the higher levels. If you are practicing as a team for an extended period, good team defense becomes naturally ingrained in how you play the game. Due to the disparity of talent that our girls usually see in high school play, these talents (teamwork and team defense) can often be corrected once they graduate to the college level. Given the number of D1/D3 players Minnestota has produced, I think college coaches are well aware of this.

Jr. WhiteCaps finished with 8-1 win over Pacific Steelers Black (Vancouver area) to finish 5-1.

Walser beat Team Alaska 5-2 and then lost their final game to the NAHA Futures (players considering NAHA) 3-0 in a game that was very close to the end. They finished 1-5. Rolando the Tartan goalie for Walser (they only had one goalie) was very good all weekend and kept the Walser in all the games until late.
