Yeah just call me Frasier - I give away free suckers and stickers at every session, or is it that I stick the suckers on the bored for free. Let me have another beer and I will get back to you on that onehiptzech wrote:Welcome to the board...Get used to it...Your first post, is a very hot topic be ready for all the drama on both sides...If you ever need any psychological assistance, seek tomASS...dreampuck wrote:Wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning Reality Check?
My point about the stickers was this, I thouhgt it was nice that there were several kids there from other very succesful AAA programs that were willing to consider the Icemen a good place to play. I think it says good things about the Icemen program.
As far as when the tryouts are held, that could be debated how smart it is or not. Its not for me to decide because I'm not running the team, the fact is, this is when they had it. It is our choice to participate or not. To call what I consider very intelligent, dedicated, and maybe more importanty great poeple idiots, is in my opinion very unfair on your part.

fighting all who rob or plunder
HT......what the Icemen don't do enough to make their kids the best cone skaters in the state?
I watched them play in Duluth from right above their bench and heard/saw how a team of 10 year old kids should be treated. I may have missed it but there was no "you get the puck to my kid" coming from their coaches, just quite a bit of teaching during game using the board and positive comments.
I guess being a MM apolgist you have drank to much of the orange or blue(smurf) flavored kool-aid.
Or are you upset that you missed their tryout?

You're right such a huge difference in the Icemen, Deuce, Magicians, Miracle, Edge etc how could I have missed that.
Yes there are some kids that are not going to be back on the team. That is such a common thing in most programs except at yours, nobody wants to leave the Holy Grail of Hockey..........
Wish you could have attened our tryout last night, there were some nice players there.............or is everybody just a reject from your squad?
Next years rankings then in your mind go something like this:
Blades
Machine
LSS
Deuce
Northern Wings
Magicians
Edge
Snipers
Grinders
Showcase teams
Icemen

I would assume in the near future. Do you have more info on these guys & the team? Are they still looking or are they happy with one look? If only one look, are they that sure of what they have???? Sounds like from others they may be in a good position for next yr. I'm wondering who the STICKERS were?

Dont count you chickens before they have hatched. After tryouts you need to get the"Sticker" kids committed to your program. The Icemen are based out of Maple Grove/Rogers/ area for practices. That is a long way to drive for some of those Sticker Kids. How committed are your coaches in cutting their friends kid to make room for those "Sticker Kids" ? What tourneys are you going to enter? How many hours of ice next summer?dreampuck wrote:Wow, what a tryout, did anyone else see the 98 Icement tryouts last night?
I believe there were about 38-40 skaters not including goalies. There certainly were a lot of great players and many with AAA stickers on their helmets from various well known AAA programs![]()
It seems the 98 Icemen will be making a significant jump in ablity from what was already a good team. Good luck putting this team togehter coaches.
Wach out Machine, Blades, LSS, the Icemen are comming!
The 97 Icemen had a good turn out of "Sticker" players at their tryouts too! What does their new Roster look like? Who did they get?
my neighbors grandson went there last night, he had been on some orange team, practice almost every baseball night... Man old Lou could let it go how he couldn't go watch baseball games of his grandson. Problem he says with the location of this team is northern suburbs..[/quote
Not sure I understand. Are the Iceman anti baseball or just a long drive. I heard they want the kids to have baseball options. I heard the selection options were very good. I guess the drive might be worth the options. Seems like people should take a look at this team if they are practicing what they preach.... Any idea who the stickers were?? Orange?? or who

That is what I'm asking. I had heard they will be at Breck. If so the stickers should be happy. Are thet still looking?

Another FYI everyone.
The Mix team was made up of roughly seven Icemen kids, three or four Deuce kids, two Miracle kids and one from the LSS (well maybe exactly). You can draw your own conclusions from this about the number of kids that will be returning to the Icemen for next year after the tryouts.
Some from the Blades and Machine may trivialize what the Mix accomplished in the Easton tourney but if anyone was there in the lobby and stands when the Mix played the Machine even up in the first game and saw the Machine parents squirming around and shaking their heads in disbelief at how close the game was - they would think otherwise! EVERYONE NEEDS TO REMEMBER at the time Machine = 2+ years together and the Mix was 2+ hours together. The 3 - 0 final score equals about 1 goal for every 100+ hours the Machine had been together and the game was really much closer that the final score reflected (1 - 0 with less than two minutes remaining in the game when the Icemen pushed everyone forward to try for the tying goal).
As for the 98 Icemen - they had half a team of "open level" kids and the other half was "invite level" (as you can see by the number of Icemen that were on the Mix roster). All good kids no doubt but there was a good drop off in talent after they got six or seven deep that slowed them down a bit. After all that has happened with the Mix and the good showing at the tryout I'm pretty sure that won't be the case next year!

C'mon hockeysticks, we heard the Mix actually had something more along the lines of 3 hours of practice, not just two!
We also heard some of those Mix kids had to pay up when they got back to MM.
Slapshot back to reality -- is this a Mix or Icemen thread? Because if Icemen roster is as rumored, look out. The Icemen cometh!

Thanks for trying to inform the forum on my team but don't tell people where we are going to have our practices when we haven't even rented ice yet. Once our team is solidified, we will work on our practice locations (Pssssst that means more than 1 rink).Dont count you chickens before they have hatched. As far as cutting kids, it's not a fun thing to do but it has been done.....
I appreciate all the concerned individuals who care so much about our team........and they say hockey parents are the worst

..unless the kid is the son of one of the Coaches...then he cannot be cut.

HH do you have some anger directed at the 98 squad? You posted about the 97's tryout/coaches announcement and then go after the 98's
Did they cut your son????? Looks like the big dogs are in turmoil. I know the parents & Im telling you, the Icemen are the real deal. Looks to me like the the parents are scrambling. Not sure if they are happy or sad?Guess I'd start asking if MM has a team or if they are worried about the FIRE???? Guess the parents have to start asking? Is it real or is it MM.??? I'd stop being worried about the coaches kids of the Icemen & start wondering if you have a team. Looks like the 98 coaches (Orange) have dug a hole they may not get out of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly one of the small percentage of parents being targeted?HITUHARD wrote:SECoach wrote:9 year olds?

The 98 Icemen are coached by parent coaches. Is that a problem? Here's how I feel, you have good coaches and bad coaches. Being a parent doesn't automatically make you a bad coach, just like being a non-parent coach, doesn't automatically make you a good coach. The 98 Icemen have fantastic coaches who know hockey, run great practices, care about all the kids, are totally committed to the development of each and every kid and the passion can not be denied! Almost every coach at every level sometime in their life coached their kid, get over it. Judge coaches based on their total performance and your experience with them, not on if they are a parent.
In my over 20+ years of coaching and still coaching (I am not a coach for the Icemen) I've seen plenty of terrible coaches on both sides.
The 98 Icemen will be a good team. They will be solid at every position and will give as much effort and consistency as a 10 year old is able to! The Ice Age is coming...
