Berkley Scott

As far as this subject goes I couldnt agree more with the Major Junior comment. I know berkley very well and grew up with him on the outdoor rinks as well as a HS teammate but he doesnt have the drive needed to 1 either get his grades up or 2 leave home (his comfort zone) to better his chances. The coaching available to him now is average but his ego is too big and collides with the 2 Manthey brothers who have done their best to get through to him. Bottom line he needs to get out of town to somewhere where he can be tought to fight and get tough quick. Then he will be a shoe in this spring for one lucky NHL team. It is just going to take the perfect situation for him to finally get it. He has been followed and evaluated by 5 NHL teams for sure. I cant confirm anymore than that but im sure its many more. College will not be the best option for Mr. Scott mainly because there are too many distractions. His best path would be the shortest one to take to the show and that is the OHL.

Couldn't agree more. All of his game is between the ears instead of between the boards. If he just knew that his mouth will not get him to where he wants to be.. i know that many people, including the Manthey brothers, have tried to get him to change his ways but he is too stubborn. Maybe "captain" Berkley Scott will change the way he plays. Doubtful, but worth a shot.

oh to add on to what i just said.. If he does choose the college route, i do not see him in a WCHA uniform ANYWHERE. The coaches at the U, UMD, Mankato, UND, and all the others, know that he is a head case. He may be trying to fix things now, but in reality it is too late. Again, if he DOES choose the college route i see him out east. at maybe a Vermont? or Maine? A school that knows little about him except that he is an exceptional hockey player and really knows how to score.

If he continues to improve the way he did during the past High School season...he will be playing D1 hockey somewhere, most likely beginning in 2010-2011.LetsPlayHockey22 wrote:I heard early in the season he missed 2 weeks due to academic inelligability, not sure if its true. The kid has amazing talent and I know he's had some D-3 offers and probobly D-1 offers. As long as he gets his grades up you'll see this kid playing D-1 hockey someday.
It's not Mr. Scott, but Mr. Oneill..who happens to know his stuff, and is an excellent source on talent Section 7AA. I also know, he is very truthful and very accurate in his assessments of kids, and always fair. Good luck to John this year in Green Bay. He will definitely help that team, as they were awful last year.

As for Elkshock22, or should I say Garret Hangstler?
You should be one of the last people to be putting anyone down! You open-enrolled to Elk River for what? To play 4th line varisty for your senior year? Was it worth it hockey wise?
Back on subject: Berkley will go as far as he takes himself. He's had an ego in the past but over the last season, the few games that I was able to see, it has gotten alot better. The Elite League this Fall will be huge for him! Goodluck to him
growing up with berkley really helps to see who the kid really is. yes he does have a big head at times but i think this year he will really mature as a hockey player and as a man. he has big shoes to fill with belisle, o'neill and the rest of a pretty talented senior class gone. hopefully he gets the picture and leads the tornadoes to a decent season.
As far as putting anyone down I haven't seen it. I think that Berkley has already matured to a point that he has changed at least one coaches mind on the elite team in Dzieck sp. who elected him a captain. I wish nothing but the best for him and my point was that he has too much talent for HS hockey and needs to move to a more physical level where he can display his top talents like how to take over a game when he decides that he wants to get mean.
Re: Berkley
Just heard John was released by Green Bay:( along with Keegan Flaherty..quite a surprise, anybody know where they will be playing now?ColdasIce wrote:GR3343 wrote:Thanks for the update Mr. Scott.hockey59 wrote: Berkley was never "academically ineligible"...what happened was mid-quarters came out, the coaches weren't happy with his progress to date and to get his atttention, they sat him against Maple Grove and North Metro (Thursday & Saturday games) which Anoka still won. If you both know anything about the USHL you would know where to look for trades and transactions. As of today John O'Neill has not been released and Keegan Flaherty was officially traded to the Fargo Force another USHL team. Trades have been happening all week. Lots of movement on Waterloo, Tri City, Fargo and Omaha, lots of good kids to move around. This needs to be moved to the Junior Forum, maybe a USHL posting and an NAHL posting could be started on that forum. Lots of former mn high school players on the NAHL rosters this year.

I just have to bring this one back. I saw him play tonight at Cloquet and realized he is not the player that he was when he was surrounded by O'neill or Belisle. Is this kid still a real deal type of player? Or is he a kid who has to be put around the right type of people to play? I realize Anoka is down, but I also realize that there is much more that this kid could do to make himself better.. ie. HUSTLE WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE PUCK!!
Some input would be nice.

I would have to completely agree. but how can you hustle when your out on the ice for 4 minutes at a time? i swear the kid never comes off the ice. anybody else see that?jigs78 wrote:I just have to bring this one back. USHL coaches won't care too much about high school antics. If you can play and help a team, they'll keep you. It sounds like this kid may not be the "real deal"?jigs78 wrote:Berkley was not drafted by a NHL team. Still uncommitted, And is not on the protected list of Tri-City (where he finished off last season). What is next for Mr. Scott? Will this be the harsh reality that his antics during high school finally caught up with him?
