The team released several players a few days ago, and he's still there. He's currently wearing # 98. Good luck to Golly and if anyone comes across any news on him, please post it here.
Another GR guy coming to the rescue
Keep in mind, I initially asked if 98 was a bit pretentious for a rookie? I didn't want to go deeper than that. Apparently the Grand Rapids contingency wants to take it a step further.
Let's take a look at this, Alex has chosen the highest number on his team. A number higher than the best player in the NHL. Keep in mind, Alex has not even made the team.
You guys can argue it six ways from Sunday. There is ego involved when you go with a number higher than the greatest player in the game. You don't think other NHLr's will take notice of that.
In my opinion, prove yourself first. Ray Bourque, one of the greatest D men of all time played with the # 7 for many years. Later, he changed his # to 77. I am sure Boblee will give me an explanation of why that happened.
