Junior Womens Hockey League Games in Minnesota

Post by joehockey »

This weekend the Junior Womens Hockey League is coming to Minnesota to showcase their players to Minnesota Schools.

All teams are good but two stand out - NAHA is a very top program from Stowe, VT and Balmoral Hall is a top program out of Winnipeg. The weekend in Minnesota schedule follows and all games should be very good. When we talk about MN girls hockey and the future these teams/schools/programs are developing players that compete with the State's leading postion with D1 schools - most of these programs are not as old as MN Grils HS Hockey and the JWHL is a new (2 years old) and rapidly expanding League. Perhaps in the future the HS Elite League can have these teams play as a guest like SSM does now?

This is a great weekend of hockey and will give MN hockey fans a chance to see some teams from the East Coast and Canada, that they normally would not see during the year.

A brief history of NAHA. they started in the 1999-2000 season and have since placed over 100 girls in to the college ranks. Last year alone, of the 12 graduating seniors, 10 went to DI and 2 went to DIII. Every year NAHA boasts 100% college placement of their graduating seniors.

The game between Minnesota and Ohio State will feature some NAHA Alumni in Kelli Blankenship for Minnesota and Teal Bishop, Whitney Miller for Ohio State.

Several USA and Canadian 18U players will be playing this weekend on several of the teams in attendance.

Like all of the tournaments and showcases hosted by NAHA, there is no gate fee for JWHL games.
