transfer students

Post by dubya44 »

What would happen if a student transferred to a school after their 9th grade year at another school before the new transfer rules kicked in and then wanted to transfer back to their original school? Would they have to sit out for a year or what would be the case?

You would definitely want to make sure to have the MSHSL approval before letting any transfer play. It is my understanding that they have made numerous exceptions to the rule. The hard rule isn't really as hard as originally thought but it still can cause huge problems if you don't get approval.

The thing that happened to Mahtomedi football on the news where they let a transfer player play that shouldn't have and went from 1st to last place overnight is something no one wants. That not only affected their team but also the other teams in their playoff section that had to play a so called low seed which really was a 1st place team.

I believe the player would have to play JV unless he moved. Are you speaking for yourself or another player?

Or he could take advantage of the little-known provision and play varsity in his old school for the first year of the transfer, like Rubbelke did after he transferred to North St. Paul last year.

And remember, if the transfer is accompanied by a family move, the kid is eligible in his new school right away.
