Player Statistics

Post by brookyone »

If I were a coach I would delegate the responsibility of reporting scores / stats to the selected site to someone associated with the team...such as a student manager. Similar to the duties of a sports information director most college teams use. As a coach I'd also make sure to followup and see that the job is getting done. All info should be added by the designated stats person within 24 hrs. of results IMO. For all high schools, it would also be good to select one site to submit all information to. Various school teams reporting to various / different player / team stats sites is a large part of the problem...obviously.

Probably a number of coaches who don't really care about stats being published. Regardless of whether a coach personally cares about the availability of such info...fans are entitled to info and publishing the info is beneficial to the athlete...IMO.

I agree in the stats responsibility concept and have heard of some schools that have one of their assistants take that responsibilty on. Am not sure why some of our other area coaches do not do this.

I would respectfully disagree though that fans are entitled to the stat information. Fans such as we forum dwellers enjoy that information but I don't think we are entitled to it.

We do disagree on that. Fans who support any team or school (in many many ways) are indeed entitled to access statistics. Statistics are kept by every sport beginning with high school sports (sooner in many cases) thru professional sports. Statistics are in no way a private matter being the exclusive domain of teams or coaching staffs.

If fans weren't entitled to those stats, why does anyone (press) publish them? It's not only because there's interest. It's public information.

I agree that the information is public information but my focus was more on various stat websites, which as I read back to my post I did not specify that.

So hopefully this will clarify.....stats published on one or more of the various websites is not job requirement (at least in our area) and as such we are not entitled to them being published or reported through that specific medium.

Stats keeping is required (and public information) but unless the various schools or MSHSL are going to require a specific reporting process (including a specific website) how access will be provided will continue to vary greatly. For example in our area, if I asked the coaches I would be provided access. They have the information, they simply choose not to place on the various websites for whatever reason. Game story write-ups also provide access to the stats.

Here lies the problem Brooky, Scheider doesn't attend the High School Girls Coaches Clinic/meeting put on every year where about 95% of all the coaches attend, from all over the state. In fact, I don't even see any of his staff attending either. The past 2 seasons, the president of the Girls HS Hockey Assn, has begged and pleaded that all teams use the MGHCA website to enter all scores. The site is so friendly that when you submit your info, you can also have it sent to at least 10 other places that you want your scores sent to...LPH, Star Trib, Pioneer Press...get my picture. So, if someone would be so kind as to tell Coach Scheid to get his password and delegate the 30 second assignment to one of his student managers or Assistant Coaches, the rest of the SEC coaches and the Stillwater non-conference schedule would really appreciate it!! ](*,)

Maybe because I've heard from the section representatives that he hasn't been there the past couple of years...oddly enough the same amount of years the high school league has been asking the coaches to use the coaches website ... MGHCA.com

Nicole Anderson from Shakopee should have a pretty good year. She has some younger, offensive minded girls she can play with BUT they do have a tough schedule this year. I see they have Hopkins, Wayzata, Eden Prairie, Jefferson and Anoka as non-conference games and the Missota has some pretty tough teams as well.

I believe Anderson is 2009 not 2010 But still a Very good player!
but I agree will be fun to see if they have the intensity this year to compete with the big dogs.
