Best weekend for a hockey fan to see Minnesota hockey?

Post by TheHockeyDJ »

If you brought someone to Minnesota for a long weekend, what would be the best time for them to experience Minnesota hockey? Final Five, Wild playoffs, State Tourney, Section tourneys?

Key words appear to be 'experience Minnesota hockey'. With that in mind, it would have to be the State or Section Tournaments. The Wild in the playoffs doesn't happen every year and the W.C.H.A. Final Five could be without a Minnesota team. Highly unlikely, but, there is always the chance.

He doesn't get that much...

So I'll agree too!

Schwans cup isn't bad either, unless you get stuck going to a Hill game....

Blasphemous as it is to say, I'd probably give the nod to the Final Five over The Tourney. I think it kind of leans more toward high school in terms of atmosphere over the Wild. You still have bands, the edgy parents and the young rabid fans, plus the hockey itself is a little better. The Wild games are a little more like a "rock concert" - Very highly produced and not as much of a real "Minnesota" hockey experience... Not as raw.

But if you can't get to the Final Five, get to a Johnson/Como Park game and enjoy a nightcap at one of the many fine East Side establishments. :D

I'm leaning towards the semi-final saturday at the DECC, or the week after with a lot of section finals Wed.-Friday at Thief River Falls, Duluth, and the T. C. State tourney is great, but man the tension to me seems to be better at the DECC where you don't have many neutral fans there, but the entire arena is on the edge of their seats.

Keep up the input though, enjoying the comments.

Nothing compares to 7AA Semi-Final Saturday at the DECC, NOTHING!

IF tickets were available for the X, the week of the High School tournament would be a great weekend for Minnesota to host a Bantam International Invite and have Minnesota families host kids from around the US and Canada like they do in Quebec for the Pee Wee's.

Play a Bantam tournament in the outlying rinks and culminate this Bantam tournament championship right before the High School championship.

Hearing a whole arena chant "where's your city" is priceless

You think enough people would attend that game to make it worth it to be played in the X? I don't think so.

I think they do it at home games too just to figure out where everyone is from.
