Does anyone know where Lauren Smith went?

I thought she was playing with Ohio State but I did not see her at the Ridder or on there website?

She decided to give up hockey well before the start of the season.

Berreman?

Post by hshockeyfan91 »

Lisa Berreman is an outstanding defender. During the HS season there is no doubt she is among the very best players in the state. I do have a question with offseason - she doesn't appear to tryout for NDP type stuff, no JuniorFest, no Whitecaps/IceCats, no CODP/OS, etc - bottom line is that she doesn't appear to play hockey during the summer months. I am sure that she would have her pick of just about any / all of these programs.

Possibly she is playing - boys teams?, or maybe I just haven't seen the right rosters/groups - not sure, or maybe she's really into some other sports like volleyball, lacrose, etc. Maybe she's just that rare player who is so good, and knows where she is going from an early age, that all the summer stuff is unnecessary.

Bottom line, does anyone know why she chooses not to do a lot of summer hockey? If we can understand the principles, maybe there is a cost savings other families can apply!! :)

This just goes to show ya that the cream will rise to the top and you really don't need to do all the off season programs.

Berreman is one of those players that you have to go and watch play.
She is a great player, I think she is the best D in the state.

I hear the spirit of what you're saying, but I'm not sure if I totally agree. I think Berreman is more likely the exception than the rule. I think exceedingly few players could do what she has done and still be moving on to a significant college experience. Hence my question, how does she do it? Does she do lots of private / small group work?

Bellamy to Harvard

Post by Game Misconduct »

Duluth northern Stars Goalie Laura Bellamy turns down local UMD for the Crimson.

She was also annouced as the Minnesota state representative for the wendy's Heisman High School Student Athelete. She will go to New York in early December as one of 6 finalists.

Quite a feat for the 4.0 student, Class President, Softball star, and Starting goalie since 7th grade.

Thanks for the reports and to Hux at the College board

Updated 11/19/08 the final day of the NLI period. A few more will probably become public in the following days so watch your local newspapers and report commitments here.

Congratulations to the Minnesota athletes; 15 and counting!

Congrats to Laura Bellamy on her selection as a finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. This is proof that good things happen for good people. The Duluth Northern Stars, the city of Duluth, and the State of Minnesota are very proud of her accomplishments.

Anyone heard anything regarding Nicole Anderson from Shakopee? I've heard that there a couple eastern schools looking at her- Connecticut, Providence, Quinnipiac? Anyone have anything to back it up? Could be, she is a pretty good skater.

So maybe another way to look at this thread is who are the top unsigned players who have not yet made a D1 commitment who might be able to play D1? Some people have said this is not as strong as 2008 or 2010 but I would think there are still good D1 prospects I will start the list so others can think and nominate but I do not know all of the players that well so this is not meant to exclude - probably some Thoroughbreds to consider:

GOALIES
Harvard Laura Bellamy............G........Duluth Northern Stars

Others Goalies
Jessica Havel, Grand Rapids
Kayla Lange, Anoka
Alexus Schutt, Thoroughbreds

DEFENSE

Minnesota State Erika Magnusson.............D.......................(Fer gus Falls)......................Fergus Falls, MN
St. Cloud State Lisa Martinson................D.....................(St . Louis Park)...................St. Louis Park, MN
Other D?
Julie Baumgartner, BSM
Judy Daleiden, Blaine
Lyndsey Domass, BSM
Jenessa Heller, Anoka

At the Blake/Andover game last week, its seemed to be common knowledge in the Blake stands and locker room that Hilary Hayssen had committed to Harvard and that Margaret Chute was joining her sister there, as well.
