Best Site for boxscore / stats?
Where are the most complete boxscores / stats?
Varsityonline? Nope
Sportshuddle? Nope
Maxpreps? Doesn't seem like it
MGHCA? Doesn't seem like it
MSHSL? Not so much
Minnesota Sports Online (StartTrib)? Game scores, some stats, but not much beyond
It seems like this just keeps changing every year. It sure would be nice if PointStreak or some other stable (and hockey friendly) score reporting source was there.
So, my question - Where are you all looking for the best information?

Re: Best Site for boxscore / stats?
Unfortunately, there isn't any single site that you can consistently rely on for timely and accurate information, at least not from what we've seen so far. I was hoping the MGHCA site would be improved this year, but I think it's going to continue to be an uphill battle getting all of the individual coaches on board with it.hshockeyfan91 wrote:Where are the most complete boxscores / stats?

Yes I believe that is what I heard is that they want the coches to enter their stats on the MGHCA and in that there is a place to attach the stats to other sites as well, all at the same time,MNHockeyFan wrote:That is what the MGHCA site was supposed to do.hockeyrube7 wrote:Why can't there be one site for all of these coaches to dump their stats, and the rest can share from there?
Until all of the coaches get the stats in it will be incomplete.
So harrass your coaches to get the stats in to MGHCA it is only going to be as good as the coaches that use it will allow it to be.

Many Coaches Don't care...
Many coaches don't care about stats - some actually don't like stats (i.e. "this is a team game and I don't want my players concerned about personal stats..."). Whether that's good or not is debatable, but if the MGHCA relies on their coaches to fill out the stats they will NEVER have a complete site.

I'm not not saying that at all. Why can't there be just one place to dump stats, and MGHCA and any others for that matter can pick the stats up from there. Why have so many different places to log stats? Just more ways to get errors, I'd say.MNHockeyFan wrote:That is what the MGHCA site was supposed to do.hockeyrube7 wrote:Why can't there be one site for all of these coaches to dump their stats, and the rest can share from there?

Best Site for Stats...
I believe MGHCA.com is now the official site to post stats for each regulation game. If you go to the website and click on "stat rat" you will find MOST of what you are looking for.
As always, it is up to the coaches to follow through...

The hope for the MGHCA stats site is for it to become the place that all media outlets gather boxscores & stats from each night. Stats entered are automatically sent out to the media outlets selected by the coach(es). The other sites out there are good as well but every 2-4 years they are changing and thus no good archive spanning the last 10+ seasons exists. Some of this is due to the changing landscape of the internet over this time, etc. too obviously.
It would seem that coaches should enter their stats in:
1) MGHCA Site (& set up the media outlets that it should send this info to)
2) MSHSL Site (As they will want this up-to-date if they go to state, etc.)
3) Conf site when applicable (Out of respect for the Conf. archives and usually is just scores)
There are other good sites out there that have come and gone over the years as well including MaxPreps, SportsHuddle, VarsityOnline, etc. I know an email was just sent out to all the HS coaches about the new choice of the Star Trib (changed from MaxPreps due to speed it seems?)
See below...
Dear coaches:
I am writing to notify you that the Star Tribune has changed statistical tools this year on our web site. Instead of using Max Preps, we are now using Minnesota Sports Online, a local vendor that so far has been providing faster uploading times, better customer service and an all-around more satisfying experience. If you were regularly using Max Preps to input statistical information for your teams last year – or even if you weren’t – we encourage you to use Minnesota Sports Online this winter. Signing up for a password/account is easy: Just log onto
http://admin.minnesotasportsonline.com/signup.stats.php
and go from there. We know your time is valuable and that you sometimes receive statistical requests from multiple sources. Please be assured that we believe ours is the most accurate and complete source out there and that we provide the most support to our users. Also be assured that there are many eyeballs on our site. In October alone, for instance, Startribune.com had roughly 750,000 page views on its high school stats pages. Thanks, and don’t hesitate to e-mail myself or Ryan Phelps, the executive director of MSO (ryan@minnesotasportsonline.com) if you have any questions.
Also, as a reminder, this does not replace the need for home teams in games involving metro area teams to call or e-mail in box scores immediately after games end. For that, please call either 612.673.4447 or e-mail preps@startribune.com.
Thanks, and good luck this season,

www.minnesota-scores.net seems to be the best so far. MaxPreps looks like it's dead. MGHCA is sparse.

The coaches are asked every year at the HS coaches seminar to use the MGHCA.com website to download their teams stats. It seems every year the same coaches who choose to skip that seminar are also the same teams that never enter their team stats on what is supposed to be the official girls HS hockey website.Oilers08 wrote:I seem to be having trouble finding individual stats for the stillwater girls. Do me a favor, tell Scheider to get a hold of Tim Morris (EP coach) and get a password, so his team manager can update all of Stillwaters stats!! One huge benefit to this system, once you take the 5 minutes to enter in your game stats after the game, you can have 10 e-mails also sent to whomever at the same time. (Star Trib, P Press, LPH...) So you don't have to call in to each and sit on hold or whatever, it goes straight to them.

Yes, some are just plain lazy, if you do not want to do it because it is too much work then Delegate the responsibility

A while back there was talk I believe about making it "mandatory" to enter into the MGHCA site but obviously this never happened... I'm guessing that many coaches focus first on coaching and second on administrative stuff but some could argue that this doesn't help the players that want to get noticed by college scouts but truly the scouts/coaches will find the best players no matter if stats are posted I believe...

Someone from their program is posting stats, I just checked and all of the stillwater stats are up to date on the sports online website. That would be easy enough to do- here I will even give you the link. YOu can see results from every game they have played and up to date stats.

MGHCA Does Not Think the Details Through...
Regarding the online scoreboard, our coach is not coaching because of his data entry skills. Frankly, he has little interest in the stats - which is fine, because he's a good coach - good with the team.
In the past two years I have tried numerous times to be able update the MGHCA site for the team. I have sent e-mails to various MGHCA officials, copying our coach, and received no response other than "your coach has the login and password". Our coach says that he does NOT have that data.
I said this earlier in the fall, but if they rely only on the coaches to enter stats, they will never, ever, ever get all the teams. The basic philosophy of the MGHCA precludes their database from ever being the primary tool. Their philosophy (coach is the active control point) is different than every other site. Because of that the StarTrib site (MN Sports Online for this season) will be the primary site year in and year out.

Re: MGHCA Does Not Think the Details Through...
I assure you that all "your coach" has to do is show up at the meeting or if that's not in his job description he can ask for the password. He doesn't have it because he has not asked for it. It is admirable that he is more about coaching than stats however it would take two minutes for him to get the information and delegate the duties. Part of the job of ANY head coach, whether High School or squirts, is to perform some basic administrative duties. I'll go with arrogance on this one.hshockeyfan91 wrote:Regarding the online scoreboard, our coach is not coaching because of his data entry skills. You got that...
That is exactly my point - 100% right on...he hasn't asked, but the apparent position of the MGHCA is that the coach has to ask. If the coach has little interest in stats then the site stays empty for the team. I'm sure he's not the only coach that has that [minimal] degree of interest in the stats. So, as long as the MGHCA stats have to go THROUGH the coach, there will not be compliance from all teams. He doesn't have it because he has not asked for it...
