Don't know about the captians, but Nick Brunnette should be the offensive producer and top forward while Blake Doerring will be a strong offensive defenseman and Harrison Blankenship will be another defensive anchor.

How long has Harry been playing Def.? As I remember he was a pretty decent Fwd.

He has been on defense the last two years, not sure about what he did before that. Their sophomore goalie, Evan Oncay also should be a fairly solid player.

The two big question marks to me are goaltending and how they do without Birkholz. Haven't heard anything about there goalie but they lost a lot of points last year so it will be interesting to see who steps up besides Brunette.
Stay Classy, Minnesota.

Did any of Blake's players play in the Elite League? If so, who? How did they do?

Nope not as far as I know, unless they list the city they're from instead of school, and, or I don't know the players name.

He was at Breck, but is now back at Eden Prairie.

I would have guessed that both Brunnette and Doerring would have been Elite 1 players. Doerring is going to play D1 hockey out east, isn't he?

Did there coach promote them to the league?

Should be a down year for the Bears. Thin in upperclassmen and while Brunette, DeVries and Doerring are talented it won't be enough to compete with some of the deeper teams in 2A. It will be interesting to see if the underclassmen will contribute.

Capt,
Do you know what colleges Nick Brunette is looking at? He seems like a D1 canidate after juniors for a year or two, but I hear he is a very good student and would like to go to college right away.

I'm guessing that they're probably the second best team in their conference and Section to Breck. They'll either tie for first in the Tri-Metro with one loss (Breck), or finish second with two losses (Breck). Nobody else in the conference will compete with them.

2008-2009 Boys Hockey Season Preview

Post by capt »

http://www.blakeschool.org/news/detail. ... &NEWSPID=1

The 2007-08 Blake Bears graduated 65.8% of its season goal scoring. The 2008-09 Bears will look for a balanced offensive scoring attack, and for new offensive contributors to emerge. Likewise, the Bears will look to develop its own foundation of teamwork and team defense. With the graduation of a two-year starting goaltender in 2007-08 the development and emergence of solid goaltending will be important. Team co-captains, two-year lettermen, and seniors Blake Doerring (D, 07-08: 1G,19A=20Pts, 30Gms) and Nick Brunette (F, 07-08: 21G,18A=39Pts) will provide the nucleus for strong team leadership in guiding the many young and new players transition to varsity hockey.

Returning senior lettermen include: Charlie DeVries (F, 07-08: 5G,13A=18Pts, 30Gms), Harrison Blankenship (D, 07-08: 1G,6A=7Pts, 30Gms), David Brenton (D, 07-08: 0G,0A=0Pts, 17Gms), John O’Brien (D, 07-08: 0G,0A=0Pts, 8Gms), and Jack Ordway (F, 07-08: 0G,0A=0Pts, 1Gm). This group of seniors will be counted upon for mature leadership and to foster cohesive team spirit throughout the season. Returning underclassmen letter-winners include: Donald Chute (F, 07-08: 5G,8A=13Pts), Kasey Boyd (F, 07-08: 5G,5A=10Pts), Cam Falvey (D, 07-08: 0G,3A=3Pts), Matt Boente (F, 07-08: 1G,0A=1Pt), Kolten Fischer (F, 07-08: 0G,0A=0Pts, 4Gms), Steve Patterson (D, 07-08: 0G,0A=0Pts), and Evan Oncay (G, 07-08, 0-1-0, 1Gm). All of these players will be looked upon to contribute in many expanded team roles. New 2008-09 Varsity rostered players include sophomores David Tearse (D), Ford Traff (F), George Ordway (F), Reed Mandel (F/D), Ryan Bullock (F/D), Ryan Hayes (G), and Dushyant Mehra (G). Freshman Devon Johnson (G) rounds out the new players rostered. Team contributions will be looked for from all of these fine young student/athletes.

The Bears ‘face-off’ the season hosting the Bob Nelson Tournament November 28-29, 2008, versus longtime tradition filled rival the University School of Milwaukee. Section 2A rivals Delano and Richfield round out the field. Non-conference opponents in 2008-09 include Cretin, Woodbury, Totino-Grace, Thief River Falls, Crookston, Roseville, St. Louis Park, and Mahtomedi. Tri-Metro conference home and home games will include St. Paul Academy, Minnehaha Academy, Providence Academy, The Saints, Breck, and conference new-comers Como and St. Paul Johnson.
