Rogers 6 Osseo/Maple Grove 2

Rogers plays Rochester for the Championship. Even though I've been called a Rogers guy, I'm not. I just know many of the players and parents and wish them luck in the ship.

It's good to see that good hockey can be played in other places then D6 and Wayzata.

I still laugh at the non-Rogers believers. Not even picked to be in the finals and they are playing in the ship. Nothing better than beating top 10 teams!

they have a few very nice players. I would be very upset if I was one of the parents of the 6-8 kids that very rarely if ever see the ice in a game. How would you like to go thru a season of never playing but having to write a check to play- yuck:(

Rochester 4
Rogers 2

Looked like rogers got tired..imagine that. Would agree that their top 8-9 skaters are the equal of anyones but what a long year for those third liners.

Wayzata 4
Lakeville South 1

Two power play goals and a shorty for wayzata.

Would agree Rogers may have gotten tired. I do say they gained more respect though. For a young program they have some fine players.

Respect. . .for what. Yes, they have some good players, but why take a compliment of 15 skaters and only skate 8-10? We all know why. Why not let those kids you're never going to let see the ice in a game play B1 and go with 10 skaters? Otherwise, step up as a coach and work to improve everyone. Seems to me it's pretty lazy, and selfish, to cater to the kids who can really play and forget about the others. Why do the parents on this team stand for this?

Tired ? Rogers scored their 2 goals in 3rd period period and one of Rochester's goals was an empty netter.

Not associated with the team but they should get some respect ... respect for beating some very good teams. Sounds like your a little bitter because your team was one of them.

A good coach at the Bantam A level will let kids and parents know that when the team enters tournaments, they are there to win....not to keep parents happy or worry about little jimmies self-esteem.

A good coach will tell parents that when the team is in a 'nutwrencher', he is going to put the players on the ice that he believes will get the job done. Any parents that don't like it will put their kid's high school career in jeopardy....

A good coach will let the goalie parents know that if their kid lets in a few light goals early....he is going to be yanked because the team can't afford to have any handicaps or lack of focus if they are going to win.

A good coach will let the kids that sit at critical times know that he will make it up to them over the course of the season (double shifts against lighter teams, PP or PK against lighter teams,,,,). He will develop them...but he won't let them get in the way of victory.

Bravo to Rogers for winning the EP Cup. They came there to win, and they did what it took to win the tournament. That's Bantam A level hockey executed properly.

well thats a great theory...but they went 3-2 and didn't win it. No question they are a top team, from what I've seen top 5 for sure, but lets not forget its Thanksgiving!!!! I'm sure the time will come when most coaches are compelled to shortin it up. This was different, two lines straight out of the shoot. They earned the respect of any team they faced I'm sure. Now they need to gain the confidence in themselves to at least spot the other kids in these situations. What happens if they get a couple kids injured? Will they play with 7-8 players. This team will be there at the end, I hope the coach prepares all his players for the streach run.

Yes tired, They clearly lacked the jump they had earlier in the day. The defeat of OMG was impressive. On fresh legs I'd take rogers over rochester anytime.

Respect for what! As others have said, they have beat some really good teams. The team showed they can beat anyone. As for the coaching...the best players should play and the team must do everything to win, it was a good move, its no different at any level. All of the players play, not all the time but why not throw your best players on the ice if it means a win? Just because your team loses to 10 good players doesn't mean you have to be bitter.

Rogers is a good team. number 19 is something special. The rest of their team is very chippy. a lot of cheap shots. their was a kid from maple grove who went to get the puck in the corner facing the boards, the rogers kid took a run at him and the kid went flying head first into the boards. The rogers kid had enough time to pin him up against the boards, but he went flying in as hard as he could against the kid. thank goodness the kid got up. this is just one example of many I could have chosen from. but then again what do you expect from a team that plays in a district with anoka and elk river. I talked to a parent from rogers and he said he was embarrassed to be apart of that team. he said they are taught by the coaches to play that way. im sorry but that is not right. the rogers team has a lot of talent but when the coaches are telling them to take cheap shots that is not right. I wish the best for the rogers players but I think their needs to be a coaching change if they are told to take cheap shots. I dont know how players can go home feeling proud of playing that way?

First of all I know for a fact the rest of the team is not chippy! There is a select few who are, as with many other teams. And I dont know who your source was but the coach does not allow that kind of play. I agree there should never be that kind of encouragement by anyone but I know he doesn't. You cant make a judgement about a team you have rarely seen play, let alone the actions of one player.

I am not saying that rogers is not a good team because they are. They proved they were a top 5 team this weekend. Their top line is one of the best in the state. They did have some players that were just out there to hurt someone. Their was maple grove parents saying that they did not even want their kid to go out back out during the resurface because they were scared for the safety of their kids. That should never happen. The refs let a lot of the dangerous plays where someone could have gotten seriously hurt go. It was more the refs fault than anything. It wasnt just one player but If the coach sits the players that play like that, all the more power to him. If I was misinformed about the coaches in the rogers association, I am sorry and actually am happy to find out that I was misinformed because their is no place in hockey for that behavior.

Hockey is a physical game and it was very obvious Rogers had the plan to pound Maple Grove to get them off of their game. It seemed to work since the game was over in the first 9 minutes. As far as the check from behind goes I do remember a kid from MG blasting a rogers player from behind as well....so the "cheap shots" went both ways, and there are always going to be
bad checks in a game that was being played as physical as that one was.

Maple Grove will be there in the end but if teams just pound and grind on them they will struggle. I am sure their coach will take care of that as the season goes on and that will not affect them as much
