WBL 08-09

Post by B »

will this team finally make it past hill and into state?
can they win the conference over woodbury/CDH?

with at least 5 returning starters(putney, swanson, lowell, collete and hoffman), this team is looking solid. but will the horrible coaching of sager come back to haunt them?

your thoughts are much appreciated...

They've got a shot at boht the conference and section championships, with the conference championship being a muhc better chance. Woodbury and CDH are both solid teams, not phenomenal. HM has a alot of talent but the loss of Joe Phillipi is huge-I've been told by HM players that the upcoming goalies are, and i quote, "absolutely horrible."

I second, that's a solid picture. But as far as WBL goes, I'm expecting a great season. I think their competition will come mostly from Woodbury. Their returning seniors should do fairly well, and Owen should tear it up too. Definitely anticipating another Hill vs. White Bear section final. White Bear just needs to make sure they have an excellent student section at all their games, because we all know they certainly did last year.

We all remember how that strong support translated into wins over HM last year...and the year before that...and the year before that.

I suspect White Bear will throw another solid team this year. They will work hard & goaltending should be a strength. Sometimes coaching can be an equalizer & as long as their staff remains the same I like Hill's chances.

there is nothing to say about hill murrays dominance over WB the last few years. but without Phillipi in net for the Pioneers I think WBL has a great chance and should post a win, hopefully two :), against Hill this year.

Phillipi was the difference period. People can blame coaches all they want but that kid was awesome for the pioneers.

There wasn't too many people who would have believed that comment would ever be posted here only a year ago. Phillipi sure proved it when it counted. I will say, I expect WBL to be stronger this year and they (gasp) are due to win a section final. Their strong conference can only help. They obviously have the youth program to keep feeding the monster. I think Sager is a fine coach, but I'm not a big WBL fan, so I see things from the outside.

I expect White Bear to take the conference and section this year. I'm sick of hearing about Cretin, I doubt they will be a serious contender, but Woodbury will be a challenge. As far as the section goes, I doubt Kirk McGinley will be able to goaltend a championship team for Hill.

McGinley got cut today so he is out. As much as I hate to admit it though, I would expect WBL to walk out on top of the section. I expect Owen to have a very good year and am looking for Ryan Wolter to step up big time for the bears.

I think it will come down to how there defense plays in front of Collette. Putney is rock solid, and Gjerde is good. We will see past those two. Despite all the Sager criticism on this bored, they are well coached, have a good system, and play hard.

With Lowell, Swanson. Wolter, Pasma, and some sophomore talent in Birkenbine and Wahlin they should be able to put together two good scoring lines. I think this is going to be a breakout year for Wolter.

I thought Colette finished strong after an up and down season and was phenomenal against the Hill Murray (clouds part) in the sections at the coliseum.

White Bear should be able to win the conference title... Woodbury is their main competition, and they lost some key seniors. As far as sections go, without Phillipi or a goalie with any varsity experience, I don't think Hill will be able to pull it off against the Bears this time around.

That being said, White bear can be pretty inconsistent, and I expect some surprising outcomes of a few regular season games, both ways.

Remove the first one and you have the 20 varsity players for WBL.

Sager always carries 21 on the varsity roster then makes a demotion late in the season.

Hey B, how do you spell conquer? I saw the WB-Century matchup was as disappointed with the WB student section as I was impressed with the team. They have to step it up to follow up last year's section.

I guess I'll be the first one to say how dominant Sam Swanson looked against Century. Sure it's just Century, but he seems to have the tools to be an elite player this year.
