Cloquet VS Grand Rapids 12/2

Post by quickgym guy »

Big early season 7AA game at the Lumberdome tomorrow night. Both teams are young this year. Should be a close game...

Cloquet - 2
Rapids - 1

Early in the season at the Lumberdome, I'll take Cloquet. I see Rapids coming back to beat the Jacks in their second meeting, though, and thereby securing the #2 seed in 7AA.

Either way, it should be a very close game that may give us an idea of what to expect in the section as the season goes on.

Typically a close game. I think Rapids has the better goaltending. Underwood nearly gets the shutout, GR wins 4-1. Yes, it is a good rivalry, but it seems to be a friendly rivalry. I think to most Rapids fans playing CEC is half as important as playing East, and I'm sure CEC fans probably feel the same about East.

Say, is anyone video recording this game?

I'm very aware of that. I would note, though, that in the past few years 7AA has been very compressed at the top, and this year, at least on paper, it's not. But East fans know better than anyone that having more talent and a higher ranking means nothing come semifinal Saturday.

So we have a tie. Not to shocking, knowing these teams' history. Nice job by Rapids with the comeback; a tie at Cloquet is probably a morale win for them. We'll see where each team goes from here.

Great game to be at... Game was pretty even through 2 periods. Cloquet did lead 4-2 after 2 but, Underwood looked real shaky in nets. Rapids dominated the 3rd, outshooting the Jacks 16-3. Thompson played very solid for Cloquet in the net.

Outshot the jacks 16-3 in 3rd, wow! Sounds like it was a great game. Good job by Rapids to come back twice from 2 goal deficits against a good club in their rink. Would have liked a win, but a comeback tie is something to build on and we can get the W against CEC at the old IRA.

Rapids goalie had a save percentage of 82.6% on 23 shots, the Greenway goalie had a 90.5% save percentage on 63 shots. I would guess that the 63 shots the Greenway goalie faces were of higher quality. Maybe Rapids got the wrong Greenway goalie.

Ripping the Goalie

Post by northwoods oldtimer »

Greenway got beat 6 -2 the team gave up 63 shots that is a pure butt whipping in anyones book.
Rapids tied Cloquet 4-4 in Cloquet on a nice couple goals late. Ripping the Rapids goalie is an easy out when your club got the game handed to them.
Greenway1969 you will have to dig a little deeper to find solice in the 63 shot hammering
Back to the drawing board for young Anton.

This was not a rip on the Rapids goaltender. It was an observation about how you never know what you are going to get.

I believe GR got the better tender to go along with the better team. It's a great fit and this year will only prove that.

I was at the game and Underwood deserves to be ripped... For all the hype he has gotten I wasn't impressed.
