Private Schools - Freshmen Classes

With Bantam eligible players in 9th grade, I am curious as to what current 9th Grade - Bantam A's, JV, or Varsity players are currently known at the various private high schools.

If you have any info regarding freshmen and where they are playing this year (bantams, JV or Varsity), that would be cool.

I know Pete Krieger plays 4th line Varsity for St.Thomas. He is from Tartan. I also know Andrew Commers that plays 4th line Varsity for St.Thomas, and was an Edina kid.

OK...I have gone through the high school rosters and posted the ninth graders shown on the Varsity rosters. I need peoples help in providing me with 1) Freshmen that are playing JV and not rostered on the MSHSL website, and 2) Freshmen attending the private but still playing bantams (please provide where they are playing and what team). Finally, with the Varsity Players that I have listed below, please provide what association they came from.

I think it will be very interesting to fully pull together this list and look at the strength of freshmen classes, as the high school transfer rules will limit players moving from one school to another. We should be able to crystal ball who is going to be really good 3 to 4 years from now based on this.

No. Minneapolis-Park Bantam A team lost two players. Wes Iverson to Breck JV and Matt Benolkin to Holy Angels JV. The others are freshmen at the private schools but are playing Bantam A.

What is the purpose of this post beyond developing lists of 9th graders, at private schools, that play hockey?

Several will never get a sniff of Varsity. Some were B players, JV now, and Jr. Gold in the future. Some privates have strong JV teams, with good 9th and 10th grade players, and others have weak JV teams where kids historically have never moved from JV to Varsity.

The transfer rule will have an impact as the privates used to bring in strong players for 10th grade but now are working on filling the pipeline with 9th graders.

This post, I believe, is valuable to parents of second-year peewees and first-year bantams as they size up the list and see where their kids might progress. it helps gauge expections -- the parents' and the athletes'. then a family can determine what goals should be set (or set aside) and then how best to go about them.

it also can help parents see what other families have decided and assess whether that was a good hockey decision as they watch those guys a year or two ahead perform -- or don't.

Slapper, the transfer rule was put in by the Minnesota High School Leagues. In a nut shell, if you transfer from one school to another between 9th and 12th grade, you must sit out a full season (you can play JV, but most 'blue chip' hockey players are not going to move in 10th or 11th grade to play JV hockey). Thus, transferring to a private as had been done in the past, may be heavily reduced in the future as a result of this rule.

If you change your address (move from one PUBLIC school District to another), it is my understanding that there is a one-time exception to the rule. I am not sure how this rule effects privates.
