Traveling Costs

So what does your association charge for traveling hockey? Do you pay up front or do you get monthly ice bills?

I paid $250 to register my Squirt player and we get monthly ice bills from anywhere between $200-$300. I'm guessing that may be on the high end of the spectrum because CPYHA only has one pull tab booth in the city of Champlin.

Got our ice bill for the month of November, only $175. Woo Hoo!!!

$10 for MN Hockey & $30 for USA Hockey on our own.
$125 for Association @ Registrations.
$175 due November, December, January, & February
No Team Assessment fees.
U10 --> U14
Squirt --> Bantams

Bantams 1400-1500 plus $150.00 buy out of fundraising or sell coffee. Must be paid before first practice.

U12 A $1500.00 same conditions.

So I guess around $1000 plus for the season is pretty typical then. I did notice something on my last ice bill that I am thinking about questioning:

Ice fees were $2350 total for the team. I looked back on the calender and counted 18 hours of ice for our team which includes all games (home and away) and practices. $2350 divided by 18 hours = $130.55 per hour of ice that our team was charged. The thing is that we shared the ice with another team at every single practice and game (obviously) so if the other team was matching our $130.55 then the total bill would be $261.10 per hour of ice.

I consider an average price for an hour of ice to be around $175 so when I see that I get a little suspicious. Am I missing something or does this seem a lot to pay for the amount of ice that we received (based on the fact that we always share with another team)?

I think most associations would bill you for 100% of the ice for your home games, and 50% if you are sharing a practice. When you have an away game, they are paying for the ice. So recal with those numbers and see how you come out.

Ok, here's what I came up with:

11- home ice practices (shared)
1 - home game
3 - road games
1 - road scrimmage

Also, our association hosted a tournament Thanksgiving weekend. Not included in the numbers above are 3 home tournament games. I know, as the host team, we did not pay a registration fee for the tournament but every parent was required to do 5 hours of volunteer work because of that.

So, not counting road games and scrimmages, we had 11 half hours (5.5 hours) for practices and 4 full hours for home games including our tournament (not sure if I should be including those or not). That comes to 9.5 hours for $2350 or $247.37 per hour.

Take out the tournament and it's 6.5 hours for $2350 or $361.54 per hour

Does anyone else agree that this doesn't seem right?

Fees for our family this year:

Bantam:
$40 USA/MN registration
125 Sign Up fee
$1600 Team fee

Squirt:
$40 USA/MN registration
$115 Sign Up fee
$1300 Team Fee

U10 Girl:
$40 USA/MN registration
$115 Sign Up fee
$900 Team fee

Mite:
$100 Sign up fee
$300 Team fee

We do not get ice bills or any other bills for that matter throughout the year. After we pay our team fees, were covered for the season. Team fees pay for ice bills, apparrel, tournament entrance fees, extra jerseys, maybe team bag, etc...However, we do alot of fund-raising depending on the team.
