WBL looked very good down the stretch last year. Melvin did a nice job of listing the talent. They are situated very well going into the winter.

As always, this conference is going to be very tough. Should be fun to watch.

This thread was about the SEC predictions for the coming year. Keep it in context. These are not "dig's" they are in the context of who wins the section and why some are positioned better than others, IMO. Seemed fairly straight forward to me.

Stillwater should have 3 extremely deep lines with young D but top tender in SEC.

Rosevilles defense top in conf. and 1st line should be solid but do they have the depth up front and goaltending to be as consistent as in the past.

WBL-solid defense and scoring coming back but will goaltending be good enough to keep them in games consistently.

Hastings-solid scoring returns at forward but not sure about D and goaltending.

Mounds View-Returns decent scoring and should be better defensively

Cretin-Hard to replace all that they lost in one year.

Forest Lake-loss of goalie and top scorer will hurt them. not sure they have enough depth to contend.

Park-Might be another couple years for young players to develop

Woodbury-another great goalie lost to graduation, not sure they can replace what she did defensively for them.

.
I tell you what, I think a lot of people are underestimating how good Roseville's goaltending is. I would put Allen up against Sobczak anytime. Allen was an 8th grader last year that was hurt part of the season. She played hurt against some of the best teams in the state last year and still had a GAA of less than 2.
Besides that, she is an extremely focused kid. She is only going to get better. If she's not an NDP player in the next couple of years, something will have gone terribly wrong

I am not underestimating rosevilles ability in the net, just dont think it is as strong as stillwaters. Either way, these two teams are going to have another close battle for the conference and section.

Thank you for the kind words about my Grandaughter. I might add she was in goal for a 3-1 win over Grand Rapids and also was in goal when Roseville handed Eden Prairie their only loss of the year. She certainly is a very focused young lady. Just one question -What does NDP mean?

It means National Development Program. Her HS coach Brodt will have the information but it is based on birth year.

She would need to be nominated and go through the MN Hockey Phase tryouts - if she is the top goalie in her age group in MN she goes to a one week National Camp - she has three years to go. It is based on birth year last summer the U15 were the birth year 1993, U16-1992 and U17 - 1991. Next year it will be U15-'94, U16-'93, U17-'92.

There are a couple of threads on the Forum about U15 Select or the New and Improved NDP Process.

Good luck to her sounds like she has already been fire tested!!

From the scores thread:

it was an exciting game!
Tartan played amazing! especially Kaitlyn Rolando! she had a 47 shot shut out!
I always like to see 'building' programs finally get over the hump and be able to compete. Two years ago Tartan was so far behind it painful. I don't know for sure, but could this be the first SEC win for them in the last 3 years?
Especially considering Woodbury has won some games and looked pretty good, this is good news for Tartan and the SEC in general. It's not hard to imagine they might pick up a few more wins as the seaon progresses.

Deep down I knew that--was I remembering them 'play' Roseville 2 and 3 years ago or just confusing the Section 4/SEC again? Never mind. Apologies to the Tartan folks. They should definitely pick up a win or 2 in the Classic.

SEC update:

Coming up, Stillwater at WBL...big game. Roseville tangles with Edina. Some exciting match-ups ahead in holiday tournament action as well. The opener in the Abra Invitational has Stillwater and Hopkins battling.

So the first half of the conference schedule comes to a symbolic, if not literal end last night as Roseville claims first place from SW and CDH inherits a share of last at the hands of Park.
Maybe a SW fan can fill me in. Where is all this offense coming from? This is the 2nd time I've seen the Ponies (also the H-M game) and I haven't seen a hint of the dynamic offense that is scoring 7-9 goals per game vs. the other SEC teams. Are other SEC teams imtimidated by the physical play and laying down to SW? What's going on? Woodbury and WBL and even MV and FL played Roseville very tough--then they seem to lay down like dogs vs. SW. Am I wrong about this?

I don't think teams are laying down for anyone. There are always alot of variables and some teams match up differently. There is no one simple answer. Stillwater does have alot of girls who can score, maybe you should give more credit to the teams that haven't allowed them to score alot. No team in the state is capable of beating everyone 7-0 every night. Hopkins showed this also.

In the MV-SW game it was 2-2 after 2 periods and in the MV-RV game it was 2-1 early in the third. In both instances MV took too many penalties and the game got away from them in the third. No dogs laying down. If, and it's a big IF, MV can stay out of the box on Saturday vs. SW look for an upset.

That and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee.

I personally think, to a large extent, you can throw out any mathematical calculations and what those calculations might indicate when it's Roseville and Stillwater head to head. At least for several consecutive seasons now. I'll admit, I haven't been paying attention...Maybe they've been as close in SOS as their H2H game scores would indicate too.

Stillwater can score...shutting them down is a big part of what an opponent needs to do to beat them. I always admire the Raiders game when I watch these two SEC teams play. They are successful IMO, because they always play a solid team game...and flat out execute on the ice...well coached, you can tell. That and they always have some skilled players filling the skates...obviously.

If I can ponder outside the SEC topic for a moment...I think Stillwater may have lost their chances for a top seed in the section. That may not be all that significant. Think CDH last season. Though with two tough consecutive losses...it's a gut check time for Stillwater. Focus on nothing except the next opponent and your own game.

The Ponies might be angry for that MV game ahead...they should be.

This is when I usually comment on how this is typical Ponies hockey. Alot of great individual talent that has a hard time playing as a team, especially when they don’t have early success. But the team that I have been watching of late is a little different (like two years ago). Moving the puck, passing, cycling…dominating. Especially the Eder Zdechlik/Cartony/Salmen line. A thing of beauty eh. So this game does surprise me a little. But then again it’s the classic offense vs. defense show down. Stillwater with their three scoring lines against Roseville’s solid and deep defensive unit. (You know… the unstopping force against the immovable object). Nah, I think the Raiders were still pissed off about how the Ponies cheered on CDH in last years semi final Section game... that’s all. 8)

Typical Stillwater Roseville game. Defense won and lost the game. Stillwater has a young defense and I would guess by playoff time they will be more seasoned and much improved. A lot of hockey left, however looking forward to seeing the next game between these 2 teams.

What were shots for the game this is only thing I have seen......

"Stillwater goaltender Marah Sobczak made 41 saves in the loss, while her Roseville counterpart, Erika Allen logged 23 stops for the win." http://www.vype.com/general/5923

I heard from a very close source that, that, and the cover story on Vype magazine were 2 huge motivators in Roseville coming ready for Stillwater. And after reading the Star Trib, I can only assume Blake and Warroad would love a chance to play Stillwater, as it seems Coach Scheid has very little respect for Single A hockey teams.
