Ben Hanowski is a good player but overrated. in my experience against him he played terrible defense and cherry picked alot. hes a good natural born scorer and may lead the state in goals but it will probably be because of the weakness in his schedule.

does he really have to play d with the weakness of their schdule? there are bantam schedules out there tougher than LF's. still cherry picking+weakschedule+his skill set= state lead in goals and points

ill take a sleeper pick that leads the white bear lake team to victories and is the best player(non goalie) on the team.
Sam Swanson will be a contender for most goals this year
losing is still far from optional

I wish I would have played terrible defense and cheery picked when I played. That must be what central scouting is looking for, Hanowski being an "A" prospect.

well if you go strictly by last years goals the top three most likely are
1. Everson
2.Lapic
3.Hanowski
which makes me wonder why lapic has not been mentioned yet

That is probably what his coach at LF wants him to do. Obviously SCSU and central scouting see him as a complete player.

It is unfortunate but Hanowski will get it based off his schedule. Didn't score against a decent Virginia team, but then Little Falls took on a not so good Greenway team and won 14-0 with Hanowski getting 7 goals. So when looking at the goal champ you just have to exclude him for reasons like this Its just a stat padding game and no indication of how good someone actually is

He had 7 goals in the state tournament last year and is always one of the top scorers in elite league. Yeah, he's just a little above average player with a week schedule. Whatever.

Numbers are numbers. It's not up to you to determine who "to exclude" from the scoring race. Remember, Ben didn't get any input on where his parents decided to live.

anyone who scores 7 goals in a game is a decent player to say the least, the only thing i'd worry about is that he's still playing in the 3rd period of a 14-0 blowout, not too classy of his coach, but more importantly you gotta protect your star. Especially on the range if he's still out there in the 3rd, theres a good chance sooner or later someone will take a cheap shot at him, and youd hate to see it cost his team a trip to state ust to get a couple extra gino's.

VERY good post. Say what you will about goals/points, etc... but it says something about a coach when something like this goes on. You have to wonder if Couture has lost some perspective in the process of trying to get a guy more points. Your team is up by 10+ goals and you continue to put your top guy out there? Apparently somebody needs a lesson in class and sportsmanship.

yea i thought the unwritten rule was once your team was up by 10-12 you sit your top 2 lines and tell your 3rd and 4th to go into the zone make 5 passes and then regroup and repeat. two extra goals against a weak team proves nothing, but you risk allot.

Hanowski wasn't even trying to score after about 4. 2 of his goals were from behind the net when he was trying to pass to a teammate. It's much less classy to hold off from scoring a goal in the second period if you're standing right in front of the net than it is to just bury it and switch lines. You have to show a little respect for the team and not just skate circles around them.

The onus is on the coach. Period. When the coach continues to run his top guy out there with a 7, 8, 9, 10+ goal lead, it tells me it has become more about numbers than the game itself.

Classless by any measure. I don't care who it is.

I could agree with you, Gopher, if this were halfway through the season. The problem is, this is Hanowski's second game just like everyone else's, so why shouldn't he or his line be able to get their legs under them for the big games ahead just like a 3rd or 4th liner? And by the way, they ran 4 lines throughout half of the second and the whole third periods...

Yeah... cause I am sure skating during the Fall Elite League and practicing during the week couldn't get him his legs nearly as well as an extra period of a blow out game could. Please...

But team chemistry with his linemates can't be practiced during Elite League. You can't just focus on Hanowski....
