Crookston @ Brainerd on 12-5-08

Post by Syd Barrett »

I see Brainerd beefed up their schedule this year by dropping Grand Rapids and adding Crookston

Any thoughts on this classic matchup

Brainerd is young with a new coach, could be an interesting season :-k

I'll go with the Warriors 4-3.
I see the Pirates cranked in 6 the other night.
Is this Brainerds 1st game of the year?

Jim Archibald is his name. He played for North Dakota and still hold some records as all-time leader in penalties, 3rd in game winning goals and I believe he was the Captain his senior year. Went on to play parts of 3 years with the North Stars.

Came down from Saskatchewan where he was coaching at the Midget level. His wife is a Brainerd native.

From the grapevine I hear he will have them playing a disciplined style of hockey but that remains to be seen.

I'm looking for this young team to take a few lumps early in the year but expect to see improvement as the season progresses. Probably won't make much noise this year in the sectionals but next year they could surprise :-k

Elliot, what do you know about Crookston :?:

Jim Archibald??!! That names brings back some memories.

For some reason, I'm having a hard time connecting his name to the word "disciplined". Image

One more reason I wish Brainerd was still in 7AA.

Brainerd beats Crookston 3-1. Brainerd spent most of the 2nd period in the box. Nice start for the Warriors!

I would have expected Brainerd to win a more lop sided game. Is Brainerd going to be down this year? Or is it Crookston is going to have an up year?

Brainerd is VERY young(2-3 seniors). They lost a lot from last year, and also have some injuries/suspensions to start the season. The first game was a learning experience for some of the young guys, which explains the sloppy play early on, and the large number of penalties. After they pushed the first goal across they got some momentum and quickly put 2 more goals on the board. Reid Mimmack was solid in the nets stopping 30+ shots on the night.

Goals for the Warriors:
Brett Jenkins(Jr.)
Michael Rinio(Jr.)
Mason Fussy(So.)

You might be on to something Lee #-o
"We played most of the second period short-handed," Archibald said, "but the guys adapted. We got them killed off. That was good to see.
