Anders Lee-college choice?

Any word on where the kid headed next year? And what sport?

Probably Notre Dame, Denver or the U, with a year of juniors. Unless a major football school offers him a scholarship to play QB, he is probably going to play hockey.

No he could not play both. The Harvard football coach said he could play both, but football season is in the fall, so there is no injury risk whereas the hockey coach said no he could not. And anyways, hockey has started in college, yet football is still going. So the 2 sports overlap which would not be workable.

Justin Milo is playing hockey and baseball at Vermont and did at Cornell previously. He was a Freshman All-American in Baseball at Cornell and invited to a New England All-Star game last year.

Tom Nevers played pro baseball and college hockey at the U of M.

Jason Verdugo, the Hamline baseball coach, played Baseball and Football at Arizona State.

Jeff Smadardzija played Baseball and Football at Notre Dame.

Eric Decker is playing Baseball and Football at the U of M.

I don't know any who play Football/Hockey, which are the two most physical college sports and have a fairly significant season overlap, but it could happen, I think there are a few D III athletes who make it work, but it would be very hard.

I totally forgot about Decker, but that is a pretty good list, alot of Football and Baseball, Football and Hockey would be tough.

I had most recently heard talk of Harvard for hockey...would be fun to see Lee and Everson together at the collegiate level!

This is just a complete guess but my money is on Notre Dame. Grey is eligible at the U for football so Lee's probably not gonna be playing QB there. He obvously loves football though and if you've ever been to a Notre Dame football game you'll know there is absolutely nothing better in the world of football at any level. ND gives him the chance to play hockey and be involved with the greatest football program in the country.

33, Tom Nevers played very little college hockey. Had he not chosen baseball he could have played all he wanted.

If someone plays two sports in college it is more likely to be football and basketball than hockey and anything.

On the D I level you will often see people have to make a choice. Jay Thomas (now at the U) went to state and did really well his junior year in Track then didn't even run his senior year because he couldn't chance getting hurt for football. Really differs with other sports though. Cross country/track is a common mix. Hockey is tough with the long season though.

Anyone know if he still speed skates in the off season?

I'd argue that football and baseball are the most common, but its probably close. I think they have a rule about 2 sport athletes only getting scholarship money from football, if they play football, don't know why, I just have heard that rule with the Smardzija and Toby Gerhart(Stanford, football and baseball) things.

College sports have gotten to the point where it's near impossible to play 2 different ones and still have respectable academics. It can be done, but it takes a really special kid to do it. For those of you looking for really good multi-sport college athletes, Jackie Robinson has to be the best ever. He played football, baseball, basketball, and ran track at UCLA.

I'm going to say Jim Brown. Possibly the greatest football player ever, an All-American in Lacrosse, scoring 40 goals in 10 games, and also a basketball player at Syracuse. The Yankees also tried to sign him to play baseball out of high school.

Dave Winfield anyone. Drafted to the pros in 3 sports, one he didn't even play in college. Greatest multisport athlete in our lifetime.

I have been his best friend since he was 3 we talk all the time about his choice and he's pretty settled in on Harvard, so I would say he will be going to Harvard, he calls the coach often when I am with him and we took a trip there and he says he liked it the best.

Julius Peppers UNC Football and Basketball

It would be to hard for him to do both in college do to the fact that football and hockey are both so physically and mentally draining at the next level...especially if he wants to play quarterback there is so much stuff that he would have to do in the offseason

if you are as close to him as you say you are, any chance you could talk him into going to the U instead or at least somewhere in the WCHA? that way we can see him play for 4 more years.

Joe Mauer has to be up there for great multi-sport athletes.

All state in football (also national player of the year), baseball and basketball.

Had offers to play D-1 in football and basketball. He chose baseball, looks like a pretty good choice so far.
