The Lake Conference

Post by O4daluvofhockey »

What does everyone think of the Lake this year? It looks like EP and Jefferson are head and shoulders above the pack but after this? Burnsville has been crushed, Eagan smoked, Rosemount destroyed, Eastview lost to Valley, heck Kennedy won.

welll.... eagan killed rosemount last weekend.. im not sure how they did tonight..JEfferson and EP are definately the favorites currently.. I wouldnt rule out rosemount or burnsville yet due to the amount of suspensions currently lagging them, Starting goalie, Zack king and eric wittchow as well as injury to charlie mosey, but come january i think it will be EP,JEfferson, Eagan, Burnsville, Lakeville South, and Rosem0unt in that order.

Someone told me that Chaska was also in the Lake.

They beat South 7-4 last night.

Also played Tonka pretty tough. Due to injuries, they started a rookie goalie who had never played High School Hockey before. They were even up on shots on goal with Tonka.

Will not be able to skate with the Jags, but will be able to challenge the rest of the Lake.....

Compared to last year, the lake will be down. EP and the Jags will be on top, very solid teams. I think the rest of the teams will be a all out battle.

It's amazing how different the conference is this year compared to last year. Last year Burnsville, Rosemount, EP, Jefferson, Eastview, even South at times played very well and all were tough teams to play. By far one of the stronger years i believe.

But now fast forward to this year and you have tier 1 with Jefferson and EP....then it seems as if there is a significant drop off from there down to burnsville maybe rosemount but after last night performance i dont know, then after well, nothing special really.
Last year every team had a few losses in conference play as everybody beat up on each other but this year i could see a team like Jefferson or maybe even EP winning the conference with maybe 1 or 2 losses.
Is an undefeated conference record out of reach for the Jags or EP if they are truely as good as they claim to be???

Rosemount had arguagly two of there best players out last night, in Ben Carlson, and Andrew Comstock, not like it would have made a difference but there are two of their three captains sitting out due to injuries, they may not be that much better, but they will start to win more games when they get those two back.

Rosemount has quite a few seniors this year as well, but none of them have significant varsity experience. Last year's team had guys with 2 or 3 years of varsity experience. Their problem is the fact they have no one to replace JT Brown, Luke McManus, Dylan Porter, Nate Percy, Mike Morgan, or Jordan Carlson.

Comstock has good hands and speed but he plays scared. No grit at all to his game.

I can see the Irish winning 7-10 games this season, and finishing around 7th or 8th in the lake

I'm not sure how the Lake does standings in their conference, but Kennedy only plays 10 conference games. The rest are mediocre competition, with the best non-conference opponents being a toss up between Shakopee, Richfield and St Louis Park.

Do they just get double credit for the games they do play then?

No idea how that is going to work. I believe this is the first year that they are doing this. I know the last few years they have played everyone twice. I'm guessing maybe asked by kennedy's head coach at a conference meeting to have more competitive games throughout the season because of the usual outcome with most of the lake teams from recent years.

It appears the Lake is down this year. Burnsville, Apple Valley, Eastview, Rosemount and Lakeville had some dominate senior forwards and goalies that graduate last year. I don't know where the Chaska team is at, but Kennedy was always good for two wins in prior years. The loss of some of the EP varsity players this year to juniors and Shattuck will hurt this team. Jefferson appears to be the team to beat in the Lake. This conference will be won by who's goal tender steps up.

I think you may be correct, the lake is starting to take shape, Jefferson and EP, the upstart AV and Burnsville, Eagan than the rest?

I don't tihnk Chaska will finish that high. Rosemount from what I saw it will be a long year for them. There are four other teams in the conference Eastview, Lakeville North and South, and Kennedy. I see rosemount behind some of those teams. The middle again will be very tight between a few teams.

I would say that you are correct. To be fair though the Lake is coming off a year where it was very deep so i believe that are just merely reloading...

Just a few early season comments. Obviously we will no more about how things could shake out after everyone plays eachother the first time through the conference schedule.

- How good is Burnsville this year? They played 3 very good teams to start off the season but now they also have a 5-2 loss to Lakeville South. It's still early but not a good start for a team that was suppose to be better. I don't see them finishing in the top 4 or 5 this year as of now.
- Rosemount has gone from being one of the best teams to a team that will finsish with Kennedy at the bottom I feel.
- Lakeville South started off with what I would consider a bad loss to Chaska for them, but have started to play better hockey lately.
- Jefferson one of the better teams in the state along with Eden Prairie those two will be around the top of this conference all year.
- Chaska has been giving up alot of goals as has Lakeville North downfall of those two teams right now.
- Apple Valley still playing well, Burnsville on Saturday if they win that and Park (not sure what kidn of team they are really) on Tuesday creates a very interesting match up the following Saturday at home when they play Jefferson. What could be the first tough challenge with exception of Eastview and Burnsville being alright teams.
- Eastview just took a big loss to Eden Prairie let's see how they rebound after that beating. If they recover well and don't play with a hangover they will turn in a good season I would think.
- Eagan really no idea here, they lose to EP not surprised, they lost to a South team that is playing better than they started and the 2 wins are against teams that are struggling early.

Just want to point out that goal tending may have been a factor in Lakeville South's games so far this year. The MN hockey hub website shows that the two goalies to play in the losses have GAA of about 5 or 6 whereas the goalie to win both games has GAA of about 1.5 and a save percentage over .9. there is a possibility that lakeville is pretty good this year, not jefferson or e.p., but a top 5 team possibly.
