anyhoo, sta will probably move up to AA because most of their other teams play in a high class, so the hockey team will probably follow suit, they play a bunch of good AA teams already so they could without a doubt be competitive at that level. marshall will not move up because they are one of the smallest schools in the state, and do not have a solid feeder system.
you really think STA is going to move up to AA?
I went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out.

under this extermly flimsy reasoning you can see that if marshall ties or loses to STA then they will surely beat them when they meet in march
Theres only one problem. You know what that is??? They wont meet in March!! Marshall just isnt good enough to make it there.

your right they are not good enough to make it there if you mean that they cant make it on skill alone like they have in the past, however they haveenough experience and depth up front, and as always "hot, nasty, badass, speed" that ricky bobby would be jealous of. i think they willbe able to outwork teams and wear them down. they also have some good young kids, who need some time to adust to the highschool game. they will battle virginia for the 7a title this year, you can take that to the bank.

and puckman yea i do think they will move up eventually, they play a bunch of AA teams and sooner or later are gonna get tired of people asking them when they are gonna move up, BSM did and i think they are a smaller than STA, so its not out of the question
enjoy this post while it lasts....

1. When considering going to state you must look at the sections of the two teams. STA and Marshall will both get better by the end of the season. STA has a much easier road to state than Marshall. Totino is better than last year but STA's only real competition. Marshall got really lucky making it last year if anyone watched that game. It may not be "fair" but that's the system we live in.
2. No way St Thomas will move up. They play tough competition during the season, yes, but there isn't a sport they don't play in their assigned class. And hockey isn't the sport they are the most dominant in, and in that sport they have been in the lower class since the class split. It's been discussed over and over, no need to discuss it more.

I think you a definetly right about the fact that St. Thomas has NO competition in thier section and Marshall has a very tought section, but the fact that you say they got lucky when they won is wrong, Hibbing came out tough and played a great game, but Marshall was the top seed for a reason and they did what they had to do to win the game and make it to state whether it was an ugly win or not, a win is a win, they are proven to be the single A team to beat in the area, private or not, they are the team to beat as much as alot of people hate it, that is just the way it is.

I wasn't questioning the seed the earned or how good of a season they had, simply the game at hand. I can't find the box score but I thought they came from behind to take it to OT then Hibbing missed a few good opportunities followed by Marshall making one. Either way, the point is still that St Thomas will have one game they don't win by a 5+ goal margin, much different of a section for Marshall. That's all.

I guess I never thought of their section. They can make it yes. But when/if they get there it wont be a good outcome for them. Im not trying to bash them. They can get better as the season goes. Well they will. Every team does. But there is a long time kids get hurt, kids get in trouble. Some teams progress more than others which might be the case in 7a as well as any other section.

Marshall will have a tough time coming out of section 7 having to play Virginia and Hibbing. I was at the game Saturday and wasn't all that impressed with their play. It should be an interesting game when they travel to Hibbing next week and should be pretty physical the way Marshall played Saturday against STA.
