Ditto for here.
And no volcanos.
'Twas 55 and sunny here today, and the golfing days are really getting #'d, so I had to spend a few bucks and get out. Shot my best round of golf of the year and I hadn't played for 5 weeks. So silly how that goes.

What's the scrimmage outlook for Section 8 teams looking like?

They'll all probably play some, beyond that it really doesn't matter...

personally i'm not sure how anybody here can put crookston in the top five... somebody please explain this team to me. They have MAYBE one solid line and to tell you the truth it's gonna be hard to watch when teams line warroad, TRF, bemidji, and EGF cross paths with the pirates. If anything maybe kittson places higher than the pirates who knows. The top five is always pretty obvious in 8A but it's really hard to see them anywhere near the top.

Ok, so you have Warroad, TRF, Bemidji, EGF in the top four and you say the Pirates are a long shot for #5? You really think Kittson will end up higher than Crox?

well maybe not kittson but park always has somewhat of an easy schedule and the coaches know this but while they may not be better than crox they will end up higher seeded

sure they'll do damage but with there schedule a coach could put monkeys in equipment and they'd "do damage".....

Warroad is off to their usual good start and are being ranked #1 in the state by some. Thief River Falls is playing well with wins over Totino-Grace and Blake for the first time since the '06 state team. Lake of the Woods seems to be back with a competitive team. Crookston is looking much better than last years disappointment. Bemidji has a nice win over EGF but got pounded by an improved Moorhead team. East Grand isn't as good as normal to this point with some un-inspiring performances. Kittson is down from last years above-average (Kittson) team. RLF is as good as usual, some nice games will come, but in the end it won't add up to much. Walker and Bagley won't win many games. And Park Rapids has beaten up on some lousy teams, big deal.

It's going to get good soon with some big section games on the horizon. I'm anticipating another Warroad/TRF section barn-burner. But it's not always that simple. I'm liking what I'm seeing in LOW and Crookston, and I know EGF and Bemidji won't be push-overs. I wouldn't be worried about Park Rapids because they never show up when it counts. Perhaps they can prove me and many others wrong this year.

they don't even look like #1.

Bemidji is ok, they hardly beat Moorhead anyway.
TRF looks pretty good.
EGF- above par

We should see an improvement for each team after the first half..hopefully. We'll see who takes the 8A crown to the X in March. Good Luck to all teams.

75, you did a pretty good job of summarizing the first part of the season... I'm still in awe of the PR EGF game. They were tied in shots through 2 periods. Is that a sign that PR has potential to be a spoiler or was EGF forgetting to show up against them during the regular season for the 4th year in a row? However like 75 said PR seems to struggle come late Feb.

Should be another exciting year of HS hockey

Nice summary "75".

I looks like EGF handled LOW pretty well this last weekend though. Just before the big storm.

I looks like their goalie is coming in to his own. He held them close to Roseau for 2 periods.

Even though they are quite young this year, Dinger may be able to keep them in most games until the rest of the team matures.

SEC 8A THIS YEAR

Post by riverman »

well it looks like warroad nailed down the number 1 spot for now with thier thrashing of bemidji. Bemidji may be # 2 or #3 but warroad has set the bar.

what are you trying to say here? Moorhead pounded Bemidji by the same score warroad did.

I'd say they're a solid #1 at this point.

At first I was thinking #1 in state but forgot it was 8A thread, whoops.

Bemidji is playing TRF now, I don't know the score updates.

TRF 2 Bemidji 1 Comparing scores is not always an accurate way to compare teams but does this score vs the Warroad/Bemidji score mean Warroad is that much better than everyone else in this section? Can Elliot or anyone who saw both games give some (early season) insight?

Warroad is very good.

Bemidji, TRF, or EGF could beat them at the end of the year depending on goaltending, younger player development, injuries.
Bemidji played teh Sr goaltender against Warroad, the sophomore maybe better and may give their team a different look.
But, yes, as of now Warroad ahs to be considered the best team by a wide margin.

But right now

1 Warroad

2 Thief River Falls
3 Bemidji
4 East Grand Forks

5 Crookston
6 LOW

7 RLF
8 Park Rapids
9 Hallock

10-11 Walker or Bagley

Warroad at EGF tonight.

Let's see how this one goes.

EGF is playing better since the initial game agaist Bemidji.

well this one was 10-3 warroad, so yeah, i'd say warroad is that much better than everyone else in the section. So far the closest anyone has been to warroad was LOW.

Hey guys what happened to all the action in this thread, we should get this going again. My thoughts on the section so far.

1. Warroad- pretty domanating so far
2. TRF- Showed they can play warroad tough
3. Bemidji- think they will keep getting better throughout the year
4. EGF- good team, have had strugles though
5. Crookston- goaltender could steal a game any night
6. LOW- some skill, not enough depth
7. RLF- good young players, could suprise a team come playoffs
8. PR- goaltending may be a big question mark, some skill
9. KC- will play hard every game
10. Bagley- same as every year
11. Walker- not very good numbers, still trying to build program

Looks pretty good.

Except, I might put Crookston above EGF.
EGF not so hot lately.

They plan Roseau tonight and I believe Crox next Tuesday, so we will see if they are up to it.
