Section 4A teams

Who are the teams in this section, and who could possibly upset a championship run for STA?

Chisago Lakes, Mahtomedi, Minnehaha Academy, South St. Paul, Simley, Spring Lake Park, St. Bernard's, St. Paul Academy, St. Thomas Academy, Totino Grace

I would say SSP probably has the best chance of pulling off an upset but without a major breakdown I think STA will make it back to the X.

Zach Palmquist, Ryan Miller, and Adam Wilcox for SSP did good last year and will be very good this year, Palmquist and Miller are the senior captains and Wilcox is a Sophomore. I haven't seen them play this year, because im up in Bemidji, but i know these are good players.

Saints have Wilczyk and Anderson. Both are very good forwards.

SSP lost 14 seniors...doubt there gonna be any good. They also lost faulk. so they have a entirly new roster pretty much besides the solid goalie wilcox

totino any good?
mahtomedi must be pretty good beating breck the other night
STA looks to have a solid roster and we should be seeing them at the x in march out of this section

I doubt he will stay, he will take the same route his cousin did and go to USHL his senior year

Wow, had no idea. I thought for sure they were in 4A, but just checked the MSHSL site out of curiosity and it says they are 4AA. It looks like they added another school, so maybe that pushed them to AA?

STA should not be in Class A

Post by kpryan88 »

They are just too chicken to have to play Hill-Murray in order to make it to state each year. HM is similar in size (when you look at the enrollment by gender) to STA, yet they play with the big boys to see how good they really are. I would like to see STA step up and stop "playing to win hardware" as their coach was quoted in the paper last season. I want to see them go out and try to win the big hardware, enough of the small school domination; show me something more!

Totino-Grace could be solid after beating Roseau as well

They're playing where their enrollment says they should. There is no shame in that. If other schools choose to opt up and play AA what difference does that make to STA?

yea cause they dont already play hill twice a year right? and can you tell me the last time it was a blow out- favoring either side? no you cant cause its always a great game, showing that sta isnt "to scared". they play where their enrollment tells them too so i dont understand people complain about them being in single a. just cause they win? cause that seems like what it is and if so everyone who complains is just a sore looser.

You just proved my point. Why don't they opt up if they are good enough to play with the big schools? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see them on the same rink as the big schools come March.

STA should be playing AA...they have the same enrollment as a smaller school would but lets be real...its all guys...600 of them...which means they have double to pick from...and its private so you know their is player recruiting going on to fill spots. They compete with hill during the year and play good against them, so why shouldnt they move into AA for good and play their come tourny time.

Careful with that Recruting accusation. Lots of public schools import from neighboring communities. Just take a look at Jefferson and the number of kids they have from South Minneapolis. We prefer to call this Agreesively Attracting players - NOT recruiting
