Big Games Week of December 15th

Post by MNHockeyFan »

Not as many huge matchups this week, as most teams get into conference play. I'm including Bemidji, because after their upset win over Grand Rapids/Greenway, they should be ranked in AA this week. Let me know if I've missed any that feature ranked AA teams and highly ranked A teams.

Tuesday, December 16
Minnetonka (7AA) 4, Hopkins (1AA) 6
Holy Angels (17AA) 2, Northfield (11A) 0
Edina (5AA) 5, Wayzata (18AA) 2

Thursday, December 18
Eagan (15AA) 4, Eastview (20AA) 5
Bemidji (?AA) 2, Warroad (2A) 3

Saturday, December 20
Breck (4A) vs. Alexandria (6A) ???
Hopkins (1AA) 3, Edina (5AA) 2

Hopkins will show their dominance of the Classic Lake this week.

Picks

Post by nothernewguy »

My picks for this week:

Tuesday, December 16
Minnetonka (7AA) 1, Hopkins (1AA) 2 goaltending will equalize this game
Holy Angels (17AA) 4, Northfield (11A) 2 unless HA breaks out bigtime
Edina (5AA) 3 Wayzata (18AA) 2 Maybe Edina will score more, but I bet Wayzata scores at least 2 on Edina

Thursday, December 18
Eagan (15AA) 6, Eastview (20AA) 2 Eagan is too deep for EV
Bemidji (?AA) 0, Warroad (2A) 5 guessing one-sided

Saturday, December 20
Breck (4A) 5, Alexandria (6A) 1 Alex will struggle
Hopkins (1AA) 3, Edina (5AA) 3 can't pick it, must be a tie

Tuesday's games all went to the favorites as everyone predicted:

Tuesday, December 16
Minnetonka (7AA) 4, Hopkins (1AA) 6
Holy Angels (17AA) 2, Northfield (11A) 0
Edina (5AA) 5, Wayzata (18AA) 2

Interesting that all of us thought Minnetonka would only score once again Hopkins, yet they manage to get 4 and make it a game. hockeyrube7 was the only one to predict a correct score, getting the Edina-Wayzata game right at 5-2.

Tomorrow night's games are:
Eagan (15AA) vs. Eastview (20AA)
Bemidji (?AA) vs. Warroad (2A)

Two excellent hockey games Thursday night. Eastview upset No. 12AA ranked Eagan Thursday night by a 5-4 margin. None of us here saw that one coming. Shots were 40-18 Eagan.

In the other game No. 2A Warroad came back after being down two goals and escaped unranked Bemidji, 3-2, a much closer game than all of us thought it would be. Warroad did have a large edge in shots, 24-11.

Next featured games are Saturday night when No. 4A Breck hosts 6A Alexandria and 6AA Edina tries to upend top-ranked and undefeated Hopkins (3:00 pm at Braemar*).

*edited - game is at Edina

The Hopkins/Edina game is at Braemar at 3pm. Hopkins will be missing a top defender for that game.

Hopkins' Kallie Billadeau turns in a shutout performance making 26 saves and Becky Kortum scores 2 goals in the 3rd period to lead the Royals past Edina, 3-0. This game certainly cements Hopkins status as the No. 1 ranked AA team going into the Edina ABRA Holiday Tournament.

The Breck/Alexandria game was postponed and will be played tomorrow (Monday) night.
