Schwan Cup
This year's gold division Schwan Cup is stacked, just like every year. Who do you see winning?
The teams are WBL, Centennial, Holy Angels, St. Thomas, Hill, Tonka, Edina, Moorhead.

We are all entitled to our opinion, so you have yours.
The Gold Division of the Schwans Cup, in High school, is a long way from peeewee and a lot has changed in all areas of hockey.
Now the favorites should be Hill and Edina. But history has shown that some teams do real well in this tournament and all it is is bragging rights. The season is young and a lot will happen before the end of the season.WBL and Centennial close game all the time. I like Centennial. AHA vs STA, they do not play very often. I am the fan so AHA is my choice. Now AHA/Centennial is always a good game, but Centennial has won each time. I still pick AHA.
On the other end I am going to be quick and say Hill wins and Edina wins making for a great semi-final. after that it gets complicated so I will not say anything until after the games.

Zamman, do you know if STA and AHA have ever played? It would not be in recent history. Their match up is one I have no idea what to predict. Like you, I pick the team I know simply for that reason. Only edge I think STA has is between now and then AHA only has practice while STA has games against Tonka and Cretin.
The class A school winning this would be the ultimate bragging rights, although I don't see Hill losing any games. I think STA/AHA are the "x factor" in this tourney at this point. Both are young and we don't know much about what they can/will do yet. But really when it comes down to it, Hill getting 3rd and Moorhead winning wouldn't be so out of this world.
Should be fun to see how it plays out.
Anyone have info on how tickets have worked in the past? Website says ticket prices will be posted by the 15th...and it's the 18th now.
My prediction:
Centennial over WBL
STA over AHA
Hill over Tonka
Edina over
STA over Centennial
Hill over Edina
Hill over STA

Last year it was 20 bucks for a weekend pass where you could go to all games, and I think it was somewhere around 8 bucks to go to one sessionHShockeywatcher wrote:Zamman, do you know if STA and AHA have ever played? "St. Thomas will take dead last.........stay in single A"
Huh? St Thomas is in class A still. Not sure what the Schwan Cup has to do with classes either. There are AA teams in both the bronze and silver cups.
How do the passes work on the 3rd day since many teams will play their last game in a different venue than their first two? Weekend pass get you into any venue?

The prices are now posted:

Curious if anyone knows why Edina is in the Gold Cup. As the cups have been going in the past years, if a team wins the cup they are offered to move up, and if they go 0-3, they move down. East went 0-3 last year so they are in silver this year. St Thomas was 3-0 in the silver so they are in gold. But Edina won the consolation bracket in silver last year, losing their first game to Benilde, and yet they moved up. Anyone know why?
Anyone think anyone has a shot at beating East in Silver?

I think centennial makes a comeback after last year's terrible performance. They came into last years tourney with a 12-3 record at the excel taking 1st in 03, 2nd in 04, 3rd in 05 and 2nd in 06, and winning state in 04. last year they went 1-2 and i see the sophomore goaltender in larson having a huge tourney and them taking home the hardware this year:
Centennial over White Bear 6-3
STA over Holy Angels 5-4
Hill Murray over Minnetonka 4-1
Edina over Moorhead 4-0
2nd round
Centennial over STA 5-3
Hill over Edina 4-3
For the ship
Centennial over Hill 3-2 Moving the excel record to 16-5 in 6 years
p.s. East will take home Silver division in a cake walk

STA over Holy Angels 5-4

move to a tougher conference? do you know anything about how high school athletics work?youngblood08 wrote:5oclockshadow wrote:Centennial over hill in the championship.........St. Thomas will take dead last.........stay in single A
I agree with the first and second statement but they should be moved to AA and a tougher conference.
School can switch conferences if they feel the need to. Cretin did it 5 years ago when they moved from St. Paul City to SEC. Edina, Armstrong, Wayzata, Hopkins, & Tonka will all be doing it in the next couple years. So the real question is, do you know anyhting about how high school athletics work?deacon wrote:move to a tougher conference? do you know anything about how high school athletics work?youngblood08 wrote:5oclockshadow wrote:Centennial over hill in the championship.........St. Thomas will take dead last.........stay in single A

komada77,
pretty sure his point was more that it takes more than being good in one sport to move to a different conference. Look at everything discussed about AHA.
In addition St Thomas hasn't been at the top of the conference in football, hockey, basketball or baseball two years in a row in the last 5 years. Alpine skiing and swimming are the only two sports I know that they dominate on a regular basis. Nothing else...not even hockey.

Actually Credit was kicked, (forced) out of the city conference. The other schools could not compete in any sports.komada77 wrote:School can switch conferences if they feel the need to. Conferences vary. AHA is in the Missota and if one team is in the conference they all are. I agree that in the next couple of years we will see some changes in conferences, but who cares what conference you are in, the section is what matters.
Totally agree that the section is much more important than the conference, but I think playing a tough conference schedule will prepare a team better for sections than a weak conference schedule.Zamman wrote:Actually Credit was kicked, (forced) out of the city conference.
