Which is what the Missota does in every sport other than hockey. One sport doesn't justify leaving a conference. If Cretin hadn't been forced, they should've asked. AHA's non-conference schedule is probably the toughest in the state. The dead horse has been beaten, let's moved on.
My prediction:
Hill - Gold
Duluth East - Silver
Maple Grove - Bronze
My want:
St Thomas - Gold
Breck - Silver
Mahtomedi - Bronze

4 goals?? thats quite the exaggerative guess. White Bear will conquer Centennial by a goal or two.wbmd wrote:Or very close to it.komada77 wrote:1st round WBL over Centennial?? I bet they lose by at least 4 goals.wbhockey02 wrote:1st rd.

Conferences vary. AHA is in the Missota and if one team is in the conference they all are. I agree that in the next couple of years we will see some changes in conferences, but who cares what conference you are in, the section is what matters.
I completely disagree!! If I was a coach, I would want the toughest conference possible to prepare my team for the post season and then an easy section, so I could wake into the state tournament.

I know this is staying off the topic of the Schwan's Cup but... When Centennial won the State Tournament in 2004, they were in the North Suburban Conf. They were beating teams 12-1 or worse pretty consistantly. The next year they moved to the North West Suburban Conference. Had they been in the stronger NWSC in 2003-04 would they have had the same success? Who's to say! They still had to win the section and get by WBL and H-M and they did. What does all this mean to what you are talking about? I don't know, I'm just stating what happened to one team one year.komada77 wrote:Totally agree that the section is much more important than the conference, but I think playing a tough conference schedule will prepare a team better for sections than a weak conference schedule.Zamman wrote:Actually Credit was kicked, (forced) out of the city conference. Roseville declined their invitation. So two teams from the Silver were needed to move up (1 replacing East, and 1 replacing Roseville).HShockeywatcher wrote:The prices are now posted:

Curious if anyone knows why Edina is in the Gold Cup. As the cups have been going in the past years, if a team wins the cup they are offered to move up, and if they go 0-3, they move down. East went 0-3 last year so they are in silver this year. St Thomas was 3-0 in the silver so they are in gold. But Edina won the consolation bracket in silver last year, losing their first game to Benilde, and yet they moved up. Anyone know why?
Anyone think anyone has a shot at beating East in Silver?

wisconsinprephockey,
Why Edina though? Both Edina and Benilde were 2-1 in the tourney last year but Benilde beat Edina head to head. Not saying they aren't a good fit at all, but from what it seems like what cup you are in doesn't have to do with how good your team currently is, but simply how you did the previous year and this doesn't to not reflect that.
Although 0-3 last year, if another team dropped, I would keep East in the Gold personally.
Anyone know how the match ups are determined. A couple seem quite odd to me.

Actually, he's a St. Thomas alum and fan. He's relatively new to God's Country up here.BodyShots wrote:Of course you would, HOMEBOY!HShockeywatcher wrote:wisconsinprephockey,

I'm just confused by the situation. It appeared to me that the success you had in the cup you are in determines how you do the next year. The team I follow most (St Thomas) got 2nd in the Bronze 3 years ago, and they and the 1st place team moved to Silver. They got 6th in Silver so they stayed there. Then got 1st the following year and moved up to Gold.
Edina got 5th last year and moves up while BSM who gave them a head to head loss got 2nd and yet stayed in Silver. Therefore it is clearly not solely about how teams did the previous year.
If it were about balancing good hockey with the winnings East wouldn't have one bad year among many good ones, especially with knowing how good they have been projected to be, against them.
Just curious if someone has some actual insight into it. If not, life will go on, no bother.

It is a combination on how good you do in the previous year and how you end up finishing the year. Edina made it farther then benilde did so they thought that Edina would be a better fit this year since Benilde lost alot of guys and Edina did not.

Based on your response it is a combination of three things: how you did at Schwan's, how you did in the season and how they think you will be next year.
That being said, I would still argue that if you take into consideration the 2nd two points and consider that a team was in the top Cup even with a Cup record of 0-3 they should stay up over a team who didn't win the lower Cup the previous year. Seems kinda silly to me to move East down with how good they were supposed to be this year and Edina up. I agree if they were in the same Cup and you had to pick one to move up Edina would've been it, but moving East down doesn't seem right to me.
Anyway. If teams play to a tie they are a tie in the books but the tourney needs to a winner so they have a tie breaking procedure. Anyone know what it is?

I gotta go with the boys in hornet green! This tourney is going to come down to firepower, and Edina is the leader of the pack in that category.
I think that my second choice would be Centennial, I have watched some of their games and I am very impressed, solid team all around.
I know most are going to go with Hill, but I think they are a fantastic team, and proved that with a solid win over Edina, but I dont think they are ready for a second round with the hornets or a bombardment from the likes of Pitlick

This is FSN's complete schedule. They are televising 4 of the Schwan's Cup games; the first two in the first round of Gold (Cent/WBL and STA/AHA) and the final games of both the silver (6pm) and gold (8:30pm) on January 1st.

Yes, I do know a little bit about how high school athletics work. You can not just jump conferences. The comment to move to a tougher conference iis somewhat ignorant because STA hasn't even dominated their conference. Also, as others have mentioned, if one sport plays in a conference, all sports play in the conference. I believe schools have an obligation for a set number of years to remain in a specific conference. Besides that, if STA wanted to switch conferences, there is no guarantee that other conferences would allow them to join their conference, similar to what happened to CDH.komada77 wrote:School can switch conferences if they feel the need to.
