Mississippi Eight Conference
Okay CNT and others lets get to predicting this season:
1.) Buffalo (75% of scoring returns, four solid defensemen, goaltending untested)
2.) Rogers (Heard from Rogers faithful that this will be better than last year because Jensen and Scaterrelli are gone, I am not sure but that may surprise me)
3.) Everybody else (Monticello has a couple players, Princeton was young last season should be better but lost goalie to Buffalo, CI not sure I know have one decent line but goaltending will be an issue, STMA has a couple guys who can play and will be a solid contender, while BBL will look to get 10 shots a game against the rest.

Seriously? There is no way.
I see Buffalo speed-walking away with the conference. I think Rogers will still be somewhat of a threat as their goaltender is improved as is much of what was a decently young team. But losing both of the big Dmen is a lot to overcome.

i know cambridge has a junior goaltender who is very solid and has played on many select and elite leagues. i think his last name is soderquist
OK, and . . .
and thats cambridge hockey....
to give up a ton of shots and ride on the shoulders of a solid goalie
if they can find line combos to put the puck in the net they should be able to compete
there d is a little weak tho

Cambridge D could be a problem. They may have to pull someone back from forward. There should be 2 lines that could skate and score.
This junior and senior group has not skated together since PW. As Bantams, there was a co-op w/ St. Francis to play A BT, but the parents of the second year kids wouldn't let them play. They stayed back and played B1.
The juniors will have to carry the team, along with 2 or 3 solid seniors.
They scrimmage Roseau, Alexandria, Warroad, Holy Family and Baudette this weekend. We'll know more then for sure.

No, you'll only know a little more. Alexandria, Holy Family and LOW may help you gain some knowledge about your squad, but all you'll learn from Roseau and Warroad is their jersey numbers as you are chasing them up and down the ice.steelheader wrote:Cambridge D could be a problem. MAML
I was not there but I heard that MAML look very good today in Sauk Rapids. In 45 min scrimmages, they beat Mora 4-1 Sauk Rapids 6-3 and Pine City 5-0. Not the greatest teams, but my source thought they were pretty dominate. It was also stated that they will have quite a scoring punch with there top line (freshman Gage Torrell, Sophomore Even Hesse and Senior Kevin Ellis). Maybe we will see the MAML team of two years ago again this year. Did anyone else in the conference do some scrimmages this weekend?

I'll give you Roseau, but they beat Warroad 3-1. Outshot them and played in their end most of the game. Beat Alex about the same, then started sitting varsity players and for some reason played the third jv line against LOW and got thumped up on for it.Puckguy19 wrote:No, you'll only know a little more. I started a new topic with this, but it got locked up as we already have a Mississippi 8 thread. Lets try to get some Lets share our thoughts!
"There has not been much on this conference. I know this is not a powerhouse conference, but there are some solid hockey teams and some teams that could prove to be sleepers. What are people’s thoughts on the rankings thus far and what teams could upset the early season favorites.
Power Rankings and a comment on the teams in the conference.
1. Buffalo (Undefeated in the conference. Very strong non-conference schedule. They play Roseau at home which could provide them the chance to get a 2 or 3 seed in 8AA if they play strong or even get a W)
2. Rogers (Could sneek up on Buffalo and win the conference. Should split with Buffalo, but unlikely to run the table to take the conference. Should be a contender for the section now they are in 2A)
3. Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake (Lost to Buffalo 4-2 ENG and Rogers 3-0 but both games on the road. Beat a decent Prior Lake team. Could be a team that surprises teams as the season continues)
4. Cambridge Isanti (Very unpredictable team with wins vs Cloquet and St. Francis and losses to Princeton and Chisago Lakes. Played Buffalo tough and tends to play very well at home. They will provide a challenge to teams like MAML and STMA in their quest to finish in the top three of the conference)
5. St. Michael Albertville (Off to a nice start including a 4-3 loss to Buffalo. Not flashy but seem to know how to win games. Very comparable to MAML and C-I. These 3 teams are the next tier after Buffalo and Rogers and they all could upset any of the top teams.)
6. Princeton (Big home win over Cambridge, but that will appear to be a fluke until they can beat another one of the top 5 teams in the conference. Could be considered in the MAML,STMA,CI category But in the end, I do not see them finishing any higher than 5th in the conference and an early exit in the play-offs)
7. Becker/Big Lake (Not looking like this will be a good year for this squad. I do not see them winning a conference game and if they were to win a play-in game, have mercy on them when they play the 1 or 2 seed in 8AA)"

cambridge
Cambridge is not anywhere near the top of the conference for whoever said that. One conference win so far (good think Becker is coming up twice) and will not make any run at all in the playoffs even if their whole team is healthy. And to the hype about soderquist with a previous thread that was locked, Cambridge always has awesome goalies and he isn't even in the top 3 of the goalies they have had the last 5 years. Yet, are any of those goalies still playing any type of hockey?
