"Meh. It's not overconfidence if you can back it up."

Since they couldn't back it up can we call it overconfidence now?

Breck 4
East 2

Final

Tied 2-2 after 2 and then Breck went ahead 3-2 on a shorthanded goal, and scored their final goal on an empty net.

Well im suprised...... East did have plenty of SOG I beleive it was 40 to Breck's 23 seems that Breck's goalie played outstanding...With East giving up a shorty with about 3 mins left in the game did not help them and with Breck putting away the EN really sealed it up tough loss for the Hounds...as it seems the past years East always does horrible at the Schwan Cup hopefully they can rebound and take 3rd place..

Impossible to take 3rd place. 5th would be nice thought.

Not to worried about the Hounds come section time. As history repeats itself, so does the Hounds bad performances at Schwans.

My attention was split between this game and the UConn-Georgetown basketball game, but what I saw of it was obviously very disappointing to an East fan. They came out very flat and let Breck establish a quality forecheck. East seemed to gain some momentum towards the end of the 1st, but it did not carry over. The defense clearly missed Forbort, but there are no excuses for this one...it was an embarrassment. And so the Greyhounds' Schwan Cup malaise continues.

The next two games are must-wins for the Hounds to save face in this tournament.

Obviously you loved the result. As I loved the Holy Angels result.

Pointstreak shows the SOG 40-14 for East. Gotta bury more than two of those if you want to win. Props to Breck. Learning experience for the Hounds, I hope.

Some of these comments remind me of the old Saturday Night Live skit about Ditka and "Da Beers" projecting ridulous wins. :P
You assume too much. =;
Personally, I am hundreds of miles from the "North Country" so my prediction wasn't a "homer" exaggeration.
Some folks merely realize how overrated Breck is. Those little Breck guys simply cannot skate with DE. It's really that simple.
Well, well, well. How's the crow taste way out west. Looks like the "little Breck guys" were able to stand up to those big, bad, Puppies. For the record, Breck had a goal waved off that shouldn't have been and the could have easily had 2-3 more goals with wide open net misses. East is a very good team but YOU underestimated the Mustangs. \:D/

I know Cooper is a great goalie, but he didn't play very well tonight. He looked pretty shaky at times and the game winning goal was a wrist shot from the blue line without any traffic in front of the net. Hopefully the team can bounce back from this.

Umm...he swung at a puck that was like a foot over his head. Although a very nice play, was clearly high sticking.

Call Breck overrated all night and into the morning, but Jonny Russell, in my mind, is underrated. Give the kid some recognition, along with the rest of his team. Maybe this win was achieved by Breck achievments and not all of your East shortcomings or excuses. :D After this win you can mark me down for Breck at the Ex in two days. Wayzata is a very good team, but once again the Stangs will show up packing heat.

On a side note, Breck really does need to take care of that shot differential.

Wow i don't know about you guys, but if a team lets in one empty net goal don't they usually put the goalie back in?[/b][/quote]

I think by "2-3 more with wide open net misses" he meant that the goalie was not in position to make the save, not that East had pulled their goalie. Lol

But he didn't make contact on it until it was at his waste. It was fun to watch either way. East outshot Breck for sure but it looked like by 10-15 at the most. The Breck goalie was a Stud tonight.

Reflecting on this game a little further, it reminds me of last year's Greyhounds. And that's not a complement.

Throw 40-odd shots on goal, watch very few go in, and see the other team slip in more goals with a fraction of the shot count on a few odd-man rushes.

One would hope it serves as a good wake-up call.

The third goal was scored because the breck player made a smart play and shot between the defenders legs which acted as a screen. That shot still should have been saved but a heady play by the goal scorer.

Not if it's Breck!

But then again, we're talking about an extreme unlikelihood, here. The kind of unlikelihood that is typically brought on strictly by divine intervention. ........ or better goaltending, backchecking and scoring!

"Obviously you loved the result. As I loved the Holy Angels result. "

Only reason I liked the result of the East/Breck game is because of how disrespectful people from Duluth are being on here and how baseless they are claiming to have the best defense in the state.
The thing I don't like about the East/Breck game, though, unlike in the AHA/STA game, is that the best team didn't win. AHA is clearly better than STA (I'm guessing they'd win 7-9 out of 10 meetings between the two), although is sounds like East is also better than Breck and just happened to lose.

It also means the East team probably won't be in the Gold Cup next year.

Breck is evidently a pretty good team...they have several very quick forwards and obviously they're goalie had a very strong game...Forbort is DE's #1 defenseman...and he is they're best shut-down defender against the oppositions top forwards...but is in BC this week..DE was probably due for an off-game...I just didn't think it would be tonight...but as I've said before in this thread, Max is they're only truely dominant forward...the fact is the rest have very little top 2 line varsity experience and it shows...but they will improve given time...to HShockeywwatchers post...when I have commented about DE defense...I'm specifically talking about they're top 4 D...not goaltending or backchecking forwards or overall team defensive play...and I still think they are the best D group, but one was missing tonight.
