Here's my expert [somewhat] review on the game, and I was there.

Breck pulled off the ultimate I told you so for the 5 people on this board who voted for them. If you want one mans opinion on why DE lost it is because they played Breck's game not Duluth East hockey. There was hardly any hitting for most of the game and Breck's "danglers" were able to get many chances.

Rehkamp and others easily could have scored more goals. A few pipes and missed nets in close. That being said, Russel played the game of his life tonight. He made multiple fully sprawled post to post saves. I, however, am not going to crown him by any means.

He is still unproven and in my mind so is Breck. A lot of credit and they deserve it, hell of a win tonight. But I'd love to see if they can string together three games like this and win the tourney. If they accomplish that, then I will support them as a serious threat to win a state title.
Stay Classy, Minnesota.

For the record, Breck had a goal waved off that shouldn't have been and the could have easily had 2-3 more goals with wide open net misses. East is a very good team but YOU underestimated the Mustangs. \:D/
I stand corrected. 40-14 SOG though?
I don't want to take anything away from Breck, but anything can happen in a hockey game.
This was quite the stunner for Breck and perhaps what they needed to achieve some respect. I'm still not sold. Let's see how the rest of the tourney plays out.

For all the hype Matt Cooper has been getting, I expected to see something quite different than he showed. He frankly looked slow and bored. What was the deal here? Does he always look this weary or was this an exception?

He might have been having flashbacks of David Brown in the section semis last year

Not if it's Breck!

But then again, we're talking about an extreme unlikelihood, here. The kind of unlikelihood that is typically brought on strictly by divine intervention. ........ or better goaltending, backchecking and scoring!

I think you will agree. Nothing will matter with this team until they actually do something at the end of the year. Nice win and congrats! Enjoy it for a day but this is really the first BIG win for this "talented group" since you started hyping them 3 years ago. Lets see how they finish this year before we put em in the hall of fame just yet. Sounds like mister Russell deserves the game ball.

Ok so I snarfed down the humble pie.

East did not play East hockey. They let Breck push them around and establish passing lanes and good shots on goal, which usually doesn't happen because the D will poke-check. Forbort was missing and is a big part of the D. I wondered by Randolph paired McLean and Arbour, because although Williams is a great player, he isnt a huge body like McLean, Arbour and Forbort. I would've kept Williams and Arbour together like usual, then had McLean pair with Amato so on each D there is one tall kid.

Breck took East off their game and got some quality shots on goal, utilizing screens and such and wasn't being driven off the puck, although Jayce Paulseth took some kids virginity on an open ice hit. On the Breck nipe, It looked like Copper didn't see it till too late. Hope this is a good wake up call for the Hounds, they cant make this a habit.

On the topic of not called goals, Brecks was a HUGE high stick, the kid's stick was over his head almost.
But East had one that was going over the line as they blew the whistle and didn't allow it. That would've given East te lead and changed the game play. But alas we didn't win, and congrats to Breck. But they no way get past BSM.
Go Hounds.

What a wake up call for East. Luckily though, a few months from now this game will mean absolutly nothing when East is trying to get to state in sections. But for now, I don;t know if East got caught up in all their own hype put they just need to regroup and then they should be fine. Still a very solid team

No question Russell was the MVP.It will be intersting to see how they bounce back tonight against a strong Wayzata Club.

Ooops!! 8-[
Actually, Wayzata SHOULD have been a formidable foe, for the Mustangs.
I think this loss just might validate that the win over DE was a bit of an anamoly.
