SQUIRTS: Who will win Fire vs. Edina?
I think the undefeated Wisconsin Fire face the undefeated Edina Squirt A team in about two weeks. Does anyone care to place a guess for who will win?
While it is a heavyweight battle, it is also a comparison of apples and oranges. The community team is restricted by geography and is theoretically 6 months older. Their Tier I opponent selects across many zip codes.
Two days ago a hockey parent in Kissimmee, Florida told me he knew a Wisconsin team was the best Squirt team in the country. Such is the state of hockey today with huge Tier I tournaments and internet communication.

I get it! If Edina beats a tier I team then all is fine with recreational community hockey and AAA stay out of Minnesota?O-townClown wrote:I think the undefeated Wisconsin Fire face the undefeated Edina Squirt A team in about two weeks. Does anyone care to place a guess for who will win?

What happens if the Tier I team wins? What's the come back? "They get to pick from many zip codes"?

You must be VERY impressed with a program like Roseau? When you have time take a look at their numbers. It's my opinion that they are the most impressive program in the state of Minnesota and it's not even close. Edina has numbers at every level mix in the endless hours of development and YEP! You get a winning combination. Edina is all about development the word recreational or community hockey doesn't exists in Edina.
Reminder: Not all associations are created equal.

Blues went 3-0-1 over them! Thanks. Great find. Still should be an interesting game considering the Fire practice in Edina.

3. Nothing? Both teams will go on their way and finish out the season.
4. I am.
5. I don't think you'll find arguments against. Have you?
6. No. Kinda how life is.

I think it will be hard to tell since they definately won't be playing on "neutral" territory. Of course any SqA team can beat the 98 Fire. Any team can beat the 98 Blues. Catch any of their Nike Bauer or Lil Ceasar scores??
will the edina lovers stop comparing themselves to the Fire after the "Game of the Century"? Nothing is ever decided over one game...
If Edina wants to validate their power, strength, DEVELOPMENT and all that crap, let them take a drive to St. Louis and post their scores the forum. Are THEY up for the challenge?

I'm not sure if you have an agenda or what, but the comment about development is puzzling.mr.mouth wrote:If Edina wants to validate their power, strength, DEVELOPMENT and all that crap, let them take a drive to St. Louis and post their scores the forum. Are THEY up for the challenge?
As a parent who drives 41 miles each way to get his son to every practice, I think you are missing the point of community-based hockey. Edina (and most other communities) can find a good game within 15 minutes from home and can play nearly all the state's top teams by driving 30. Why go to St. Louis for a hockey game, unless you want to see the arch while you're there?
We don't travel 2-4 hours to find a decent game because we want to. I'm surprised you'd throw down the gauntlet about a challenge. Edina will go to Fargo, play the D6 teams, schedule a smattering of other good programs, and has a tilt with the Fire. Not enough for you?

and one more thing for the mean O-townClown.
Edina is a great community based hockey as well as others. Perhaps they don't have the bull going on that other associations do, like...Lakeville?
And start picking on the Choice league at MM for those people not playing in their great communities of hockey...0-town loser.

Build a rink closer, start a credible youth program, and we'll probably go there.mr.mouth wrote:to O-TownClown--

Is there a better choice? Obviously not playing is one. I mean besides that. My son really wants to play.

Could it be that they like the promise of "Making their kid a hockey player"?Edina is a great association. That be said, isn't it all relative. Maybe my standards are to high, but if an association is great, then why are there 30+ mites and squirts from Edina skating in the Mite/Squirt Choice programs at Minnesota Made?

No! It's because the Edina kids receive more ice time and Minnesota made is in their back yard.My_Kid_Loves_Hockey wrote:Could it be that they like the promise of "Making their kid a hockey player"?Edina is a great association. My association Mites = 35 hours ice time
Minnesota made Mites = 85 ice time
My association Squirts = 85 hours ice time
Minnesota made Squirts = 145 hours ice time
With this said it's no secret which program the kids will benefit. Put a kid on the ice more and they'll develop faster. I agree hockey is a marathon not a sprint but the hours of development is priceless. Some people will tell you that young kids don't need that many hours of develpment in one year. I've watched many kids from our association at Minnesota made and they have developed more as hockey players versus the kids in our association. Keep in mind the kids that choose to stay in the association usually end up paying tons of money for clinics only to end up at Minnesota made.
I have friends at Minnesota made they say just to expose your kids to other coaches and people at Minnesota made they'll benefit with new hockey experiences. If you're family loves hockey and wants new experiences then Minnesota made is the best Choice. Everyone at MM is there for the same reason.
My_Kid_Loves_Hockey thanks for the reply but the question was for O-townClown.My_Kid_Loves_Hockey wrote:Could it be that they like the promise of "Making their kid a hockey player"?Edina is a great association. But since you replied, I can't tell whether your question is sarcastic or not.
Let me take your question at face value, and ask why do you think individuals choose the Fire? Could it simply be that they want to become a better hockey player and whether correct or not feel that this is their best option?
I can't think of anything better in the last 5 years for association hockey than the Minnesota Made Choice Hockey Program. It is not only the number of hours, but more importantly how they use those hours to develop 240+ hockey players. Some associations have embraced it (Edina) while others have not. Some associations have made changes for the better because of Choice hockey and others have not.Judgeandjury wrote:No! I agree! I've been telling our association for three years they need to focus on more development in the mini-mite and mite programs. Ever since 12 kids from our association went to Minnesota made our association seemed to have a different outlook for this year. The person who deserves the credit is Bernie at Minnesota made.oholene wrote:I can't think of anything better in the last 5 years for association hockey than the Minnesota Made Choice Hockey Program.
