Midwest Regional Peewee 'A' Tournament Preview
White Division
Prior Lake D6 – 8-12-0 record. After starting off the season 2-8, they have rebounded a bit at 6-4 in their last 10. They are puzzling, losses to AV, Eastview and Orono, to promising, a team with victories over White Bear, Eden Prairie and Chaska. Which team will show up?
Eastview D6 – 9-7-4 record, after good November run Eastview found it self rated (LPH) and with expectations. Since showing up in LPH they have proceeded to go 1-5-2 and completely dropped out.
Littleton, Colorado 96’ AA – 29-6-4 Have been together since September first, Scoring 4 plus goals a game while giving up a little over 1, to go along with 16 shutouts. 20th ranked team in the country for AA. Should be interesting to see how they perform against the Minnesota teams. Could be a dark horse in this tournament.
Minnetonka D6 – 9-10-1 record. After dropping first five games Tonka has recovered nicely with two consecutive championship round appearances in Burnsville and the Spirit of Duluth. Favorite to win pool.
Blue Division
Jefferson D6 – 8-11-2 record. Started to turn the corner at the beginning of the month with 4 straight victories, but once turned they ran into a wall and dropped their next 3 convincingly.
Inver Grove D8 – 12-2-2 record. On a nice run in December, 7-0-0 and one championship already. Venturing into uncharted territory as the competition gets a little tougher.
Moundsview D2 – 10-5-2 record. Top 3 team from D2, playing well and staying close in losses (except a 7-0 loss to Centennial early this season), 7-1-1 in last 9 games. Last game match-up with Inver Grove should decide pool.
Red Division
Burnsville D6 – 24-4-0 record. Don’t let the 5-3 December record fool you, those losses are to Wayzata, E.P., and Blaine and were all by one goal. Tournament favorite, but this pool is extremely difficult.
Osseo/M.G. D3 – 20-3-1 record. Fresh off a championship weekend and a tie with top rated Wayzata they come into this tournament hot and undefeated in December. Favorite to win pool but getting by Woodbury and Burnsville will not be an easy task.
Woodbury D8 – 11-6-0 Also a team winning games, but not dominantly. Victory over Wayzata was impressive, hanging on to defeat Lakeville North was not. But they are the top team in D8 until someone else knocks them off. A team that should go deep into the tourney.
Apple Valley D6 – 9-7-3 A small mid-level team that will struggle in this pool, then again a lot of teams would struggle in this pool.
Gold Division
Kennedy D6 – 11-12-1 Has played a “softer” schedule outside of D6 this year. It will be interesting to see how they handle the teams in this tournament, looking to avenge three losses to Rosemount 5-2, 6-3 and 8-0.
Rosemount D8 – 13-10-2 Have won some games, they are beating teams they should, but losing to the ones that would put them into the next level and it looks like teams are starting to catch up to them. After beating Lakeville South 4-0 they tied them a month later and after beating Farmington 4-2 they tied them 2 weeks later.
Lakeville North D8 – 8-7-3 This is a solid team with excellent goaltending and that is how far they will get carried, only as far as their goalies take them. Have the ability to strike quick with breakaways, so if their goalie keeps them close they will have a chance. Should win this pool.

Burnsville 1 Osseo/maple 0
Lakeville N. 5 Rosemount 1
Prior Lake 4 Eastview 3
Littleton 3 Minnetonka 2
Inver Grove 4 Jefferson 1
Moundsview 2 Kennedy 1
Apple Valley 2 Woodbury 1
Burnsville scored 1st goal 30 seconds into game and both goalies played great. Final Burnsville 1-0
Rosemount was up 1-0 after 1st period and Lakeville North scored 5 goals in 2nd. Final Lakeville N. 5-1 good goalie for Lakeville North stopped at least 3 breakaways.
Moundsview played physical with kennedy and both teams struggled offensively MV 2 Kennedy 1
Prior Lake was up 3-0 going into 3rd period and Eastview scored 2 goals early in 3rd and tied game with about 2 minutes remaining. Prior lake won it on a shot in close with about a minute 15 seconds left.
Prior lake 4-3 Eastview didn't come to play early and it cost them. They beat prior lake already twice and 3rd time is always tough. Lots of penalties in game.
Inver grove controlled the game 4-1 over Jefferson. Inver Grove looks like they have some talent. Better then ranking indicates. First time I have saw inver grove play in person. They looked good today. I will see if I see the same tomorrow.
Apple Valley out played woodbury. Woodbury didn't come to play in this one.
I think we already saw the championship with Burnsville over Osseo/Maple to very good teams. with my surprise pick will be Inver grove.

#12 is a good player but showed poor judgement in kicking a player with his skates during the round robin portion of play...good luck to the finalists...Hattrick81 wrote:Woodbury pretty much dominated and outworked Burnsville during the game.
Lakeville beat OMG in a shootout after two 5 minute 4X4 OT's. Lakeville scored with 4 seconds left in the game to tie it. Both teams played very well but couldn't score more goals. #12 on Lakeville is something.

Littleton is a AA Club from Littleton, Colorado. The PeeWee AA team was here for the Bloomington PeeWee Tournament. They played a nice style and were hard workers. I believe the PeeWees are at a little disadvantage over the Minnesota teams as they're all 1996 and 1997s. Minnesota teams have a half a year of 1995s on their PeeWee teams. I thought their level of play was equal to a Minnesota top 30 A level team. Our levels of play doesn't necessarily translate equally around the different regions of the country and then there's also the age difference.
The Littleton Bantam AA Club is here playing in the Edina Tournament this weekend. They will have the same disadvantage, age wise, not Chaving any 1993s. Top Minnesota Bantam A teams generally have several 1993s.
There are additional teams here from other states, for multiple tourneys, over the long holiday week including; Arvada AA, Houston Wild A, Fargo Flyers AA, Colorado Thunderbirds AAA, Marquette, Michigan AA, etc. I think it's neat they come to Minnesota to find some good competition for their kids. Not quite as easy as we have it here for these families in terms of time and money commitment. Thanks for coming!
