Great article on Derek Stepan from Hastings on NHL.com

Derek S.
I think you mean from "Shattuck". The article paints it pretty clearly where he credits his High School hockey coming from!! Leaving the NHL interviews to come back to go through a ceremony. Speaks volumes for the young man and the school.

Stepan
I would agree about Stepan, He is one of the greatest kids around. I wish he was a Gopher. I also think it speaks volumes that he decided to come back to graduate with his classmates. If I was drafting, this is a quality I would be looking for. He might be a big surprise on draft day. Good luck to him.

Sure sounds like he really impressed the NHL brass. What a great article. I remember watching this kid as a Sophmore at Hastings. If you would of told me that he would be at the NHL combine with the top 70 kids in North America, I would of said no way. What a great decision it was to go to Shattuck!!! I got to watch him play 4 times this year, and every time I watched this kid he seemed to get better. He has 70 points 2 years ago at Shattuck and this year finished with 111 points. What a great year. I will be watching the draft to see how high this kid goes. Best of luck, and I also wish you were a Gopher next year, so that I could watch you more.

Nope - he (or she) means as a sophomore at Hastings.mnpuckmaster wrote:You mean you watched him as a FRESHMAN...Right?

I can guarantee it that Derek Stepan did indeed play varsity as a sophomore at Hastings. 100% guaranteed. Derek went to Shattuck after his sophomore season with the Hastings' varsity. His cousin Ryan also played on that team before he transferred to St. Thomas Academy.HockeyGod29 wrote:Im pretty sure you mean as a Freshman. Derek never played in Hastings as a Sophmore. As a Freshman, he led the Bantam A's to the state tournament, after that it was shattuck for him.

He played his Sophomore year, and played on a line with Jerad Stewart, who is now playing at MSU-Mankato. Put it to rest.wbmd wrote:Here is even more proof that Derek Stepan played varsity at Hastings as sophomore.east hockey wrote:Derek had 27g 16a as a sophomore at Hastings.wbmd wrote: I can guarantee it that Derek Stepan did indeed play varsity as a sophomore at Hastings. 100% guaranteed. He is a true freshman. No juniors. Just his sophomore year at Hastings and then 2 years with Shattuck.hockey junkie wrote:This kid is ripping up the WCHA. Has anyone seen any of his games? I just looked at the stats. He is third on his team in scoring with 17 points in 20 games. He is the Wisconsin Badgers top scoring forward. Is he a true freshman, or did he play juniors?
