The lake may not be like last year but you can never call that conference schedule a cupcake and the section will be interesting with them, Edina, AHA and Burnsville who could shake things up with an upset.

It's not their fault that their schedule is weak, the lake conference is down, grand rapids is down, moorhead is decent but still down, they aren't in the schwans cup. This schedule stays pretty much the same every year and it just so happens that all the teams are weak this year. Oh and don't count them out for sections they'll give Edina and AHA a run for their money.

Thanks to everyone for the very positive reception. Since this seems to have gone over so well, I'll try to do this every Sunday, as long as I find time to do it. I'd also like to include each team's schedule for the upcoming week, which I will add here now. The schedules are being taken from the mshsl site; I've known them to be wrong at times, so let me know if that's the case and I can correct it.

1. Edina
-This week: Sat. vs. Cloquet
2. Bloomington Jefferson
-Tues. at Eastview, Sat. at Grand Rapids
3. Centennial
-Thurs. vs. Elk River, Sat. at #12 Maple Grove
4. Hill-Murray
-Thurs. vs. St. Thomas Academy, Sat. at Tartan
5. Duluth East
-Tues. at #9 Blaine, Sat. vs. Elk River. Big week for the Hounds, facing their last currently ranked opponent this year, and the team that is at this point the 2nd-best in their section.
6. Holy Angels
-Thurs. at New Prague, Sat. vs. Hutchinson
7. Eden Prairie
-Thurs. vs. Burnsville, Sat. vs. Rosemount
8. Minnetonka
-Thurs. vs. Eastview, Sat. vs. #13 Benilde
9. Blaine
-Tues. vs. #5 Duluth East, Thurs. vs. North Metro Stars
10. Wayzata
-Sat. vs. #14 Moorhead
11. Woodbury
-Thurs. at Park, Sat. at #15 Cretin-Derham Hall
12. Maple Grove
-Thurs vs. Andover, Sat. vs. #3 Centennial. Time to see how real they are.
13. Benilde
-Thurs. vs. Spring Lake Park, Sat. at #8 Minnetonka
14. Moorhead
-Sat. at #10 Wayzata
15. Cretin-Derham Hall
-Thurs. vs. Stillwater, Sat. vs. #11 Woodbury. Huge Section 3AA matchup on Saturday, and Stillwater is no pushover either. Big week for CDH.

Five top-15 matchups this week. Plenty of good hockey ahead of us.

In my mind these are the six teams with a chance to win it all and this is where I have them ranked.

1. EDINA When they play well no one can match them.
2. JEFFERSON Best defensemen in the state too bad they are in the same section as the hornets
3. HILL Beat Edina and still have lots of talent back from last years championship team. Kohls is the most underrated player in the state.
4. EDEN PRAIRIE Played Jefferson and Edina tight. Overplay #3 he had nothing left at the end of the Jefferson game.
5. CENTENIAL Game against Duluth East was the best of the year so far.
6. DULUTH EAST The only real outstate power.

After all the work he put in to these, just because your team is not in them does not make the rankings bad. You do something remotely as deep and justified as this, then we can talk.
They being LPH. Does that make sense now? I agree with Karl.

PS. my teams are in his top ten :D

So the better question is why do people think WBL is better than Woodbury? I've watched multiple games of each team so far this year and based on what I've seen, the Royals are much, mcuh better than White Bear.

I didn't rank in order but here are my rankings in different Levels.

Level 1- teams that rarely lose to anyone outside of eachother
1. Edina
2. Jefferson
3. Duluth East
4. Holy Angels
5. Centennial
6. Hill Murray

Level 2- teams that can beat anyone in the state but may have that missing link
1. Moorhead
2. Eden Prairie
3. Minnetonka
4. Blaine
5. Woodbury

Level 3- Either not challenged enough yet or just can't step up night in and night out with the top 2 level teams.
1. Wayzata
2. BSM
3. Maple Grove
4. White Bear Lake

Level 4- these are the teams that just haven't been able to beat the teams above them.
1. Apple Valley
2. Eastview
3. CDH
4. Elk River

I know exactly what you are saying roseauveratted, but you may have missed the point? Roseau plays who they play for reasons other than they don't want to mix it up with the better teams and therefor it may be a bit harder when it comes to ranking teams like them. Last year and the year before, Roseau won a ton of games without a loss or tie which is difficult each and every game (yes it helps if they aren't all top ranked teams but there was a BIG SCHOOL State Champion Banner for Roseau leading into the no loss season as well). I believe Blaine was ranked and Roseau got them by like 6 goals in the STATE tourny last year??? Edina, Roseau, or Hill could have skated to the top on a given weekend but Hill did it when it was time. My point is, the rankings were not far off and that is normally about as close as a ranking gets. I ususally don't get too caught up in the rankings but for the most part they are fairly accurate per the time and performances as a season progresses throughout the year. Rankings change all year as wins/losses pile up. In the end, teams may be a few places from where they actually end the season but rankings do give everyone a feel for who has it going at a given time. I personally feel you are not accurate in your thinking if you feel teams like Roseau and Edina (especially Roseau since they don't get tested in your opinion) shouldn't have been ranked where they were even though they were beat by Hill in the end (look at the big picture). So rank Roseau 4th (last year) instead of 1st, that doesn't mean they weren't a solid team and in my opinion still proved their ranking to be fairly accurate. Oh, you may want to think about what you are saying when you take a swipe at all the less fortunate teams your deserving tested teams do play (I don't think they would appreciate the NOBODY coments) many of them are normally pretty darn good teams that work darn hard. I am done on this one, sorry everyone. Back to topic and I do feel Karl(east) summed it up pretty well initially for this point in the season.
This is where I disagree. As the season goes on the rankings sort themselves out. Well no, if Roseau would have played 6 of the top ten teams like Tonka, Eden Prairie, Edina and God forbid Benilde, they would have had at least 5 losses like everyone else and would have been where they belong, number 11 thru 20. They would not have been ranked number one and, maybe by playing a schedule like that they wouldn't have been so rested or uninjured as others. You play cupcakes, you don't have any players out of the lineup. Leddy, Gardiner, Student and Lee were all playing hurt at the end of the season last year. It is easy to play well in the state tournament when you are healthy and untested versus those who have mightily struggled for three difficult grueling games and played hurt. This bias hasn't changed since the early 70"s when the North got a back door region but no one else did. It is really tiring and boring just like it was then.

But also all the teams that you mentioned (EP, Edina, Tonka, Benilde, and others) will all be ready by the time sections come around unlike Roseau was last year. And that probably had something to do with Roseau losing in the semi finals because they were not used to playing top 10 teams in a row

I wouldn't count these teams out yet either, none of them may win it but where not even half way through the year these teams can compete with there section.

1AA- Owatonna
3AA- Apple Valley
4AA- Stillwater
8AA- Roseau- I think it is Moorheads section too, but I couldn't let them be listed alone

Looks very good to me. The only edit I might make is moving Moorhead down to level 3, because they've made it pretty apparent they can't hang with the top teams in the state...they were outscored 14-0 by Edina, H-M, and East.

*sniff sniff*... Is that sarcasm I smell? Pick up a copy and ... Open your eyes a little wider. It's no secret LPH rankings aren't based on anything but some bigshots in a back room.

Exactly, coaches, doesn't sound like their opinions would be biased at all now would they?

Looks pretty good but not quite sure why AHA belongs in the top group. Shelled by Edina and tied White Bear Lake in the Schwan Cup. Would seem like Category #3 or #2 would be appropriate for them until they beat a couple in the top tier.

Your right on Moorhead I should have looked closer at the scores for those games. They also have the win over WBL and tie with Fargo South who is a very strong oteam this year. They could be 2 or 3 looking back on it.
