Blaine won 5-3 with a empty net goal very good game by both teams

Well, it certainly was a good game. It started out rather ugly, with lots of struggles along the boards and very little flow to the game. Gameplay quality steadily increased as the game went on. Blaine took advantage of their opportunities, got excellent play by Harper in net, and maintained their forecheck better than East did.
Despite the close score, East left a lot to be desired this game. Sloppy turnovers led to Blaine goals, and Forbort in particular had a rough game, essentially handing the puck to Blaine for one of the goals and taking a costly penalty late in the 3rd. The vaunted defense broke down way too often, and Cooper was not on top of his game. Despite that, they had their chances. East easily could have stepped on Blaine's throat after coming back to tie the game, but instead they spent several minutes following the goal completely bottled up in their own end. And late in the 3rd, they still had a chance...Max Tardy on a shorthanded breakaway. No East fan could ask for a better situation to get the tying goal, yet the opportunity was wasted.
Call me a cynic, but East does not look like a team that is making a serious title run right now. And with the meat of their schedule now behind them, they really have no major chance to prove otherwise, except maybe for the game against WBL. The talent is there, but they've got a lot of work to do between now and the section tournament.

I don't want to see them duplicate their past few years. Especially the end.dulutheastfan wrote:True Lee East will do just fine think they could pull a 11 or 12 game win streak like they have the past few years for there 2nd half of the season I think they will....east hockey wrote:East will be fine.
Hey, I had to balance out your cynicism a little, Karl.![]()

I was at the game and kept waiting for East to turn it on and lite the lamp. Didn't happen. The neutral zone play was sloppy and passing wasn't the greatest.
Blaine is darn good squad. They've got size and speed. Most of the shots from the point never made it through the trees and to the 'tender. If Blaine could turn and burn out of their zone, they'd have better chances - not that they need them right now.
Over all a good game. 2nd time seeing Blaine this year after they played Roseau early on.
Oh well. Up next, ER @ Centennial on Thurs.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see them rattle off another long winning streak...I'd say running the table is even a realistic possibility, given the schedule.dulutheastfan wrote:east hockey wrote:I don't want to see them duplicate their past few years. But the issue with East lately hasn't been their ability to beat up on teams from Rochester or the underbelly of 7AA. It's been how they've played at the most crucial points of key games, or the most pressing moments of the season. That's what has to change if this team wants to lift up a trophy in March.

I beleive Randolph will work on these 3 things during practice after tonights game Passing, Defense, Turnovers, and to throw it in there work on Cooper....I think the main thing will be back to Defense thoOrty wrote:I was at the game and kept waiting for East to turn it on and lite the lamp.
