Park Rapids 08-09.......

Post by SiouxRecruit »

This could turn out to be an interesting season...their chemistry seems to be getting better and the young kids are getting used to the faster, more aggressive game.

-HIGHLIGHTS-

Tucker and Sam Coborn- These 2 brothers have VERY good chemistry on the ice and are putting up some good points. Sam is a Freshman and is playing on the 1st line and is very worthy of that position...I'm quite sure he is leading the team in points and i'm sure his bro is right there with him.

Kevin McMorrow- He's good......quite obvious

Good Luck Panthers...stay focused

1 Warroad

2 TRF
3 Bemidji
4 EGF

5 LOW
6 Crookston

7 RLF
8 PR

9 Hallock

10 Bagley
11 Walker

6 to 11 have play in games.
Grouped based on toss-ups.
They will have Bagley or Walker and then QF against
Warroad probably or possibly TRF.

That will be it.

But on an up note they are playing better all the time.

What about McMorrow, is he scoring points?
Taking penalties?

I think you will be suprised. Park Rapids is on a very good winning streak. They beat a pretty good Monticello team in the Eveleth Tournament. They also beat the Northern Lakes team. They are also awaiting the return of a very talented forward, Cody Shirmers and just got another talented foward back, in Blake Olson. They might make some noise towards the end of the season. And yes, McMorrow is playing very well, and scoring lots of goals.

Monticello is not that good.

I've heard Park Rapids is a ok team but not a section contender.

I think Park Rapids could have a nice little team I am not going to lie. But, in section 8A Park Rapids lacks something compared to all the other teams that carries them through, tradition. You can argue if you want but, look at that section.

Warroad
Theif River Falls
East Grand Forks

State tournaments is in their blood, Park Rapids just isn't ready for that yet.

Nice winning streak, BUT

Eveleth ???? 4-1
just lost to I Falls 12-2
Bemidj #3 in Section 8A just beat I Falls...

Monticello, not even a middle of the pack team, but a nice win.

Bagley... okay you beat them....

Northern Lakes, nice win, nice record, but not even a middle of the road team. Tehy just lost to Red Lake Falls, 3 - 1.

PR lost to DL who I believeis 4W 6L after losing Wadena last night.
PR lost to #4 section 8A team EGF 5 - 3.

Win the play-in game and then we can talk about how close they can stay with TRF or Warroad.

Sam Coborn, nice hard working kid, but he played on a poor bantam B team last year... big jump to first line varsity in most places.

He would be JV on Warroad, TRF or Bemidji.

PR is an average team that lacks the kind of depth to compete with the top teams in the sectiion. And I agree with elliott, they will probably end up as the 7 or 8 seed. That isn't a good combination. Sam Coborn is a very talented young hockey player and it would be interesting to see where he would fit in on some of the upper tier teams. My guess is not a full JV player but definitely not a 1st liner. Against Crookston there were several times the two Coborns took over the game and dominated but they couldnt find the back of the net. Their other winger missed multiple opportunities.

Thats my point, I think with the additions of Shirmers and Olson, two senior forwards, it will fill out three complete solid lines. I am not saying PR is going to take the section, but may be able to get a higher seed, and give Crookston, EGF, LOW a very competitive game.

They are not going to get those teams in the quarter-finals.

And every team has players out. Bemidji has played with 4D so far this year waiting for #5 & #6.

Roso (n/a to 8A) are awaitng there top (or close to it) player back.

Crookston last night....

the list is endless....

Shirmers and Olson are decent but average players....
they are not the calibar of B Nelson, Useldinger, Dillon, or even Nemgar,
they will help but not get them past the QF.

But lets hope for the best and perhaps good tending will make the QF game close...
but unless PR can get out of the #8 or #7 spot to #6, they are done in the QF.

You must not have been at the Crookston game there buddy. The score was 3-0 Crookston and NO ONE from Park looked good. Check the stats!! Those boys have not put up #'s against any good teams yet this year. Keep deaming the dream baby!!

Elliot,
Bemidji must be feeling pretty lucky getting by a shorthanded Crookston last night. They got outplayed for 2 of 3 periods and came away with the W. I know the jacks were missing some kids also but I'm willing to bet they didn't see the pirates putting on that much pressure.

#16 was flying...

Some slow moments but an exciting hockey game.

Coach Chido recapped after the game, a win is a win.....

BUT....

Bitts has the kids playing well...

other than Warroad its an awful tight race.

Maybe Elliot.

But right now the Green Wave seem to be going the wrong direction.

We will see again tomorrow against Roseau.

It looks to me like the Rams are in a pretty bad funk.

If the Wave can give them a run for their money then I might start feeling a little better about them.

Otherwise, to me it is Warroad, TRF, Bemidji, then Crox. I would put the GW down with "all the rest".
My hope for the Wave is based on the future with some pretty good Bantam and PeeWee teams.

From what I have heard from some very reliable sources is that Park ran over Crox in the third and just couldn't bury the puck....if you happen to have the stats that would be great

Lots of positives in EGF youth ranks, especially pee-wees, best single A peewee team in the north, maybe the state (until the private schools start recruiting students).

But I would not give up on EGF HS just yet.....
Warroad is a lock, but you still need to get that final game and goaltending, illness, injury, who knows....

PR is very average section 8a team. Even if they do get the scoring from some of the guys that have been mentioned my question is about their goaltending, it sounds like it has been very shaky.

Scoring 1 2 3 T
Crookston 0 2 1 3
Park Rapids 0 0 0 0

Shots 1 2 3 T
Crookston 11 15 17 43
Park Rapids 9 6 7 22

17-7, that's what I call getting ran over.

Yeah, their starter got mono and their backup has a broken hand. The backup was told to start the Northern Lakes game only an hour before the game. Then he got stuck in the shoulder in the third against Kittson and the stick went all the way under his pads and cut him somehow. This looked like it hurt him alot with him squirming out there. So, I just hope that their starter gets back soon. But it will be pretty ugly with their backup in for the TRF game.
