Changing line members

Post by Backcheck1 »

Why is it that some coaches will set their lines (three in this case) and not change them all year. Not even in special situations, like the team is ahead or behind and you need to make something happen. This is a Bantam B1 team. The first line is strong and the next two lines are fairly equal but not as strong. The first line passes and plays more as a group. The next two lines rely on a key individuals to move the puck. There are quality kids on these two lines that would benefit from playing a passing game but the coach has not moved anyone. In fact when a member of the last two lines has dogged it the coach has benched the whole line instead of singling out the player who is not trying. The kids have approached the coach with no luck. The kids affected do get to carry the puck a lot. But it is frustrating for them to not have a winger be able to catch a pass or carry the puck out of their own zone. What should they focuse on for development in this kind environment. I will mention that this is not about playing time as the lines are rolled pretty evenly. Also they roll the starting lines.

Have you talked to the coach?

That is usually the best place. He/she can explain their postition on fixed lines. And especially how it pertains to your team.

Me, I would take advantage of all opportunities to develop kids.

And you never know when an illness, injury or gramma's birhday will force you to change line.
