WBL vs Roseville

Post by MedleyWR »

WBL vs Roseville Saturday 1/10, 8pm at Aldrich.

The Bears are fresh off a 9-0 whuppin of Hastings, who Roseville tied. Yet, Roseville beat Stillwater, who beat White Bear. Roseville seems to be able to win a lot of their close games (Park, River Falls, Lakeville S, Flake), while WBL has a habit of losing the close ones (Fargo S, Moorhead, Woodbury, AHA in OT, Stillwater in OT). Based on yesterday's performance, I think the Bears will take this one.

I think this is a very important point about WBL. If they're going to go anywhere this year, they need to win a close game or two. It doesn't have to be pretty; an ugly score providing a 1-goal margin of victory against a good team could do wonders for the team psyche.

Just some food for thought.

Agreed. But, while the Bears were losing these close games, they had opportunities to win. They outshot both Stillwater (28-16) and AHA (36-24). They could have/should have beaten both Woodbury and Fargo South (IMHO). It seems to me that a big part of the Bears' weakness this year has been their inability to score the "big goal". They have kept the pressure on, buzzed the net, but they keep missing their shots. They need to bury the puck and grasp the opportunities they have to win the close ones.

"should of, would of, and a dollar fify you can go get a cup of coffee..."

in other words you can talk about shots on net, close games, that they dominate etc.... none of it matters unless the bears start winning some close games... oh wait, they squeeked by mounds view!

Exactly. WBL has shown they can play with, maybe even beat, anyone in the state (when they're on). But this program seems to be in a several-year rut when it comes to winning big, close games. These sorts of things seem to drag on for quite a while, and though the simplest, timliest goal can change it, until it happens, I don't see WBL going anywhere.

They certainly aren't the only program afflicted with this problem, simply the most pronounced.

Hate to defend WBL (again) but it also need to be pointed out that WBL's opponents in the games mentioned above were FAR superior to those of Roseville. The close games WBL has played in have been against the #7 (wdbry), #8 (AHA), #16 (stillwater), and #17 (mrhd) AA temas in MN as well as one of the top teams in North Dakota, whereas Roseville's opponents are all mediocre at best with Park being flat-out terrible

I agree, White Bear's close games have been against a lot better teams than Roseville's.

And yet another White Bear loss brings the resurfacing of WBMD. Nice of him to always show up at moments like this.

oh hey wbmd! long time no see buddy! where were you for the hastings thread? oh yeah i forgot, WB won that one...nevermind!

on a serious note, the bears just got straight up outplayed in this one. its become that time where their inconsistency is rediculous. they either play and beat the crap out of someone, or play and get the crap beat out of them...this isnt going to work come section time.they need to start picking it up, they have alot of potential but just cant figure it all out yet

Rosesville is not better than WHite Bear, they just played a lot better of a game last night. and got some lucky calls from the ref. i saw numerous checks from behind, slashes, roughing, and hooks all coming from roseville, none of which were called.

And WBL never is on the good side of reffing?? WBL maybe got a little of what some other teams get when they play them. WBL is battling demons again this year. Coach/player relationship is terrible.

What the heck is up with this team... my god! If they make it through the first round of sections they will be lucky..... Perhaps those three "varsity" coaches should take a look in the mirror and try to see what the problem is!

Maybe the players should look in the mirror.

like i said, one of the most inconsistent teams in the state. also formerlylakeconference, they do have a hard schedule, your comment doesn't make sense, it does show that the have an inconsistent team

hey mustangman...... Now lets look at this... they have three coaches that were all Varsity heads.... Long, Stillwater..... Nitti, Mounds View And Sager with WBL... all on the bench, all in the rinks with them at practice day in and day out.... Please tell me that these three guys, with their experience could muster up a way to motivate kids to at least play a bit more consistant! I just dont get it.... Granted the kids ultimately have to play, thats expected, but isnt it a coaches job to prepare these kids to come into a game ready to play? If they cant motivate kids, or cant get them to buy into the system, then perhaps its time to start looking for some new blood.....

I hope the bears can figure it out... they were my pre season pick to win that conference.... oh well...
