Virginia @ Hibbing 1-17-09

Post by jacket08 »

I know its a bit early for this thread, but i makes for plenty of discussion and plenty of controversy. Westin leads his Blue Devils into Hibbing to take on Jamnick's bluejackets.

Leading scorers on each team:

VMIB:(G)(A)(PTS) Hibbing:(G)(A)(PTS)
Westin 18-20-38 Jamnick 20-10-30
Hendrickson 8-21-29 Peretelo 7-7-14
Krebsbach 11-12-23 Hanegmon 4-7-11
A.Judnick 6-11-17 Stampohar 2-9-11

This game will have a major impact on seedings in the section. Both teams look made to make a run at St.Paul, so lets hear your thoughts.

Westins Blue Devils or Jamnick's Blue Jackets?

The Jackets pounded Bemidji and Greenway and then got a big goal by Hanegmon with 30 seconds left in the game to beat Lakeville so they are playing pretty good hockey. Roseau on Monday for the Jackets will be another good test. Next weekend Virginia and Hibbing make a trip to southern minnesota. Virginia taking on Albert Lea then Mayo and Hibbing taking on Mayo and then Albert Lea. As long as Hibbing keeps playing they way they are I see no problem with them beating Virginia.

I was able to watch both teams play on back to back nights. What I saw: Virginia appeared to have more depth and rolled their lines pretty efficiently. Hibbing had the best player , #20, but lacked depth. I don't want to take anything away from some of Virginia's individual efforts as they have some very good talent, I simply thought that as games wore on, Virginia was able to balance things out much better and they had a great deal of confidence in their 3rd line. Should be a good game, but I would guess that if it stays close, Virginia will be stronger in the 3rd. Both teams were a treat to watch.

This game should be a great game to watch. I think that Virginia has the depth and goaltending edge, however can they stop Jamnick? Also can Hibbing stop Westins line, which is a very potent line. This will be thee game to see this weekend.

#15 Virginia (11-4) @ #11 Hibbing (9-4-1)

Keys to the game:
Hibbing:
- Stay out of the box, Virginia has a lethal powerplay that has been clicking all year long.
- 2nd and 3rd lines need to produce. Top line alone will probably not win this game.
- Goaltending must be solid. Virginia will get their chances.

Virginia:
- Stop Jamnick. He can't be allowed to win the game on his own, force other players to step up.
- Pay attention on the powerplay. Hibbing has 10 shorthanded goals this year which nearly matches their powerplay goal total (12).
- Play physical. Hibbing will, and if Virginia doesn't, it could turn into a long night. Virginia has the depth to play a very physical game and still be fairly fresh late in the game.

Nice research PuckRanger.
With Hibbing coming off a game against Cloquet the night before this one, I think Virginia will have the depth in the third to beat the Jackets.

That game against cloquet will not affect them this is hibbing's biggest rival they will come out flying...

But I will say that Virginia has more depth and will probably win in a close one 3-2 Virginia

Virginia may have more depth but Hibbing's 3 and lines are playing a lot better. I think we might see a different mix up of lines from the Jackets then we normally see. Against Albert Lea Nate Tromp looked like a sophomore goalie. Up until that point Tromp was playing great games. Both teams are going to come hard, the memorial building will be packed, and it will be one heck of a hockey game.

Thanks, I had inadvertantly left Albert Lea off the list of Quality Wins for Virginia, so I just edited that in.

Great post PuckRanger
This should be a good team between two section 7a teams and IRC foes the difference though might be hibbing playing a tough cloquet team the night before with virginia having a weeks rest but im still leaning toward hibbing in this one because i think they will come out fast and physicall

There should be no reason why Hibbing would have jet lag from the Cloquet game the night before. They are playing there biggest rival and should come out flying. It should be an awesome game and I'm looking foward to seeing it.

Hibbing played great against Cloquet and rumor has it that Jamnick was sick and he kind of looked sick while watching the game. But huge goal with 3 minutes left. Jackets have momentum.

Section Seeding

Post by pondhockey20 »

Does this game decide the number 1 seed for sections after I' Falls lose last night?

Predictions is Virginia by 1 with a huge game from Lustig and Hibbing coming off a big win against Cloquet.

Yes he didnt look like his usual self last night. I was wondering what was wrong when I kept seeing him just go right to the bench before each period started.
