Is This Stillwaters Year?
The Ponies beat section rival White bear this year and Hill is down after losing four players for the season. So could this be the year Stillwater finally makes it through section 4aa and into the state tourny?

I think Stillwater has a good chance this year to make a run for the tourney after recent events with Hill. White Bear is down and very unpredictable. Hill is still winning their easy conference games, but the true test will be there upcoming games with Benilde and St. Thomas and South Saint Paul- Ithink this may be Stillwaters year !!!

I think those stillwater people are getting a little too excited. Lets keep in mind that its been about 300 years since they have won a playoff game. And after seeing Hill play their last two games with their new team, it looks like they are still a solid team, i still take White Bear to go to state though. Bears Pioneers Section Final.

Stillwater has just as good a chance as any in this contaversial section. with hill being down and White Bear being unpredictable, this final could come down to Stillwater and Roseville. Roseville has a scary squad that can upset you on a given night, and Stillwater is in the same boat. there really is no clear cut favorite at this time, and it very well could be Stillwaters year to break through to the X

Wow ALSECORD why do you HATE Housley so much? He's just a man like any other coach trying to do his best each day. In my honest opinion he's done more for Stillwater hockey than MOST coaches have for their respective teams. I think he's got this year's team playing very well right now and they have just as good a chance as any other team to make it to the X.ALSECORD wrote:Relax.. Remember Housley's still running the show.If there was ever going to be a year, yes this would be it. Housley won't be able to get the kids to believe they can do it... Plain and simple. To be honset i hope this is the year, so we won't have to listen to him announce.

It seems like all the top Section 4 teams can either upset a better team or lose to a technically "worse" team on any given night. It'll be interesting to see how sections go, but I'd still give the edge to Hill or White Bear.SECBLUES wrote:Stillwater has just as good a chance as any in this contaversial section. with hill being down and White Bear being unpredictable, this final could come down to Stillwater and Roseville. First of all, i don't hate anyone. I'm just making a point. Until Phil Housley proves he can Teach/Coach/Win at this level consistenly i will continue to let it be known that i think he's here because of 1 reason and 1 reason only.. He played pro hockey. Again that does not make him a good coach.
I don't understand your point.. What has he ever done? What has he ever won? Year after year his teams underachive and are a disappointment. Because you choose to continue to believe what people tell you that "well he was an all star, he surley can teach high schooler's" doesn't mean the rest of us have too. He's just another typical hockey dad. He'll be here long enough to see that his son gets through his senior year and doesn't miss too many shifts and then he'll be gone. It's predictable.

I completely agree with this. Roseville is quietly putting together a good season. Not a great one, a good one. If they get hot, it wouldn't surprise me if they go to state.SECBLUES wrote:Stillwater has just as good a chance as any in this contaversial section. with hill being down and White Bear being unpredictable, this final could come down to Stillwater and Roseville. It seems AL like you are the one thinking Housley should win just because he was a Pro. I have yet to see a Stillwater under his reign that was picked to do anything. The squad this year has something and next year will be even better. So I guess when the only time you come on and make a comment is only after a loss by Stillwater then I would say you have a deep hatered for him. Didn't here from you when they beat WBL, nor when they beat BSM............So I guees I would just like for you to keep it that way and not say anything at all. I have yet to read anything positive out of you about any team.
Stillwater will be a team to not take lightly come sections.

The 2nd half of the season is coming around. The players playing under Housley should not be underestimated. I am not a huge fan of the Ponies, but it is the players season that is under review. no matter how well or how poor he coaches, it is quite impossible to completely control the players from the bench. In this fact you are weighing a lot on his coaching ability vs the will of his players to get to the coveted tourney. If you were baseing your opinion of the ponies on pure coaching ability, then Hill Murray should still be the number 1 ranked team in the state.

Teams like Stillwater, WBL, and Roseville got a break when Hill lost a few players this year. These teams are much closer to a section title then when the season began. Hill's present may have taken a hit but their future is getting a large boost. Younger kids are seeing more ice time (varsity & JV) and their development has been accelerated. This will make the following years that much stronger. The window of opportunity is there for those teams, but never underestimate the heart of a champion.

Before losing the four players, Hill-Murray was easily the best team in the section on paper. I'm not saying they were unbeatable because they were a team with flaws, even early in the season, but they had much more talent and scoring punch than any of the other teams in the section. Now, Hill is very much like Stillwater, WBL, Roseville and Tartan. They are all good defensive teams who sometimes struggle to score goals. Whichever team can put some offense together for three games in early March will win the section, but I don't see whoever comes out of the section making any noise at State.

Hill is obviously the favorite in section 4aa but not by much. After hill the 2-6 teams are all evenly matched. Not a lot of people give much credit to Tartan or Mounds View either. Tartan tied Hill and Mounds View has had close games with Tartan, Roseville, White Bear, and Stillwater. I think that the 3-6 and 4-5 quaterfinal games are going to be very good. Not the greatest teams but very even.
