maybe during hockey season but what do you consider top notch?

I'm pretty sure he copied and pasted the list. He didn't compile it himself.

The guy who puts that site together gets an awful lot of criticism on this message board. I (for one) appreciate his efforts. Does anybody know if he's a poster? If so, what's his screen name?

I don't think I have seen many people have a problem with the site itself or the list. It is when certain people don't put the list into perspective is when the criticism arises. That isn't his fault though. It is the fault of people who don't recognize it as just one opinion.

Same kind of thing goes for the people who act like Heisenberg's list is some sort of ranking system based on who is listed where. As if Heisenberg is going around the country and scouting all of these guys.

Most of these lists are put together via word of mouth. Not because of some great talent evaluation.

Is it really just one person's opinion????

Here is what is listed on the Minnesota High School Hockey index website ....

The top 30 players in each category are ranked, by a small group of high school scouts, in the areas of: skill, size, strength, skating, passing, shooting, stickhandling, reading the play and reacting to the play both on offense and defense, and plus/minus stats. Points are a factor in the overall rankings but not the most important factor. Minnesota Select teams and AAA Elite Hockey teams development are also considered. The rest of the players are ranked on their strengths, points, and plus/minus stats.

If Select teams are factored into the list, wouldn't you think they would start with the kids that participated in the USA Hockey Select 15 National Development Camp and build the list from there??? They were the 20+ kids choosen to represent Minnesota.

Here are the Minnesota kids that were selected for the USA Hockey Select 15 National Camp - bolded a few kids from AA schools that are missing from that Top AA Sophmore List:

Forwards
Seth Ambroz (playing in USHL)
Benjamin Bahe (Hill Murray - AA)
Kevin Becker (Hill Murray - AA)
Max Birkinbine (White Bear Lake - AA)
Travis Boyd (Freshman @ Hopkins - AA)
Nicholas Decenzo (Hibbing - A)
Eric Faust (Shattuck)
Anthony Greco (Shattuck)
Matt Hansen (St. Cloud Tech - AA)
Judd Peterson (Duluth Denfield - A)
Grant Schow (Willmar - A)
Michael Sit (Edina -AA)

Defense
JD Cotroneo (Hill Murray - AA)
Max Everson (Edina - AA)
Nicholas Hinz (North St. Paul - AA)
Brian LaBlanc (Hermantown - A)
Nicolas Oxton (Moorhead - AA)
Austin Rudnick (Breck - A)
Matt VanVoorhis (Edina - AA)

Goalies
Jeremiah Graves (Bemidji -A)
Matt McNeely (St. Thomas Academy -A)
=======================================
Alternates
Christian Horn (Forward @ Benilde - A)
Zach McCarver (Freshman Forward @ North St. Paul -AA)
Dan Molenaar (Defense @ Eden Prairie -AA)
John Phillippi (Defense @ Hill Murray - AA)
Alex Glockner (Goalie @ Minnetonka - AA)

I know that Minnesota High School Hockey Index is one of a ton of resources looking to rank kids - just throwing this out as an example of some of the very good players missing from their list.

Good post. I think it's wise to start with the Adv. 15 National Development Camp kids who made St. Cloud and all of them have to be top sophomores this year, but for several reasons there were kids that didn't get there or didn't advance that probably should have so it was nice to see them included on the list from the MN High School Hockey index website. If you combine the two lists, it has to be pretty comprehensive and I personally can't think of any players that aren't listed that deserve to be.

That's just due to the fact that the Advanced 15s are more about Who you know more then How you can go![/i]

Politics factor into everything in hockey, but it's still the right place to start and add from there. No one said it should be limited to those 20 players.

Alternates
Christian Horn (Forward @ Benilde - A)
Zach McCarver (Freshman Forward @ North St. Paul -AA)
Dan Molenaar (Defense @ Eden Prairie -AA)
John Phillippi (Defense @ Hill Murray - AA)
Alex Glockner (Goalie @ Minnetonka - AA)

You forgot the other alternate goalie. Austin Lanoue from Moose Lake. He played the Bantam B's last year. He is now a goalie for Moose lake - A.

Find it funny that a B kid from last year was left off, but can compete with any kid on this list. Not sure the motivation behind the miss, or just in error, but struck me as interesting.

I left Austin Lanoue off the list because he did not show up on Pointstreak .... I couldn't tell what team he was on or if we was even playing hockey this year.

Maybe because the only sophomore on the varsity roster is the backup goalie Justin Woodley, I think he has played in 2 games.

I have 2 comments...

-First off about Austin Lanoue why he played bantam "B" last season is because Moose Lake does not even put together an "A" team for whatever reason.

-Second off you can't base the sophmore list off of the select 15 list because that is only 1993 year born kids which would factor out 1992 year born sophmore kids such as Nick Bjugstad or Ben Marshall
